March 01, 2025Homily for Sunday Ordinary 8 CSend us Fan MailIt’s the beam in our own eye that makes the world look splintered. You know how it is with pointing fingers, one is pointed, but three are pointing back at you.I have Mass on Sunday, March 2nd at St. Isidore @ 7:30/9:30 amThe 7:30 am Mass will be live-streamed https://stisidore.church/worship-online/[email protected]...more10minPlay
February 22, 2025Homily for Sunday Ordinary 7 CSend us Fan MailThe Greek word for grace is CHARIS. When Jesus builds his rhetorical crescendo, criticizing reciprocal love (even sinners do that!), the word translated as “credit” is CHARIS. The phrase is better translated, “If you love those who love you, what grace [CHARIS] is that to you?” I am away this weekend.[email protected]...more11minPlay
February 15, 2025Homily for Sunday Ordinary 6 CSend us Fan MailKeeping my eyes fixed on Jesus, I find the center, a level ground on which to stand. Jesus is the still point in a turning world. Like a tree, planted by the water, I shall not be moved.I have Mass on Sunday, February 16 at St. Isidore @ 7:30/9:30 amThe 7:30 am Mass will be live-streamed https://stisidore.church/worship-online/...more10minPlay
February 08, 2025Homily for Sunday Ordinary 5 CSend us Fan MailSimon Peter is all in. He is entirely present to himself; not just Simon, the big hearted, impulsive man, “If you say so, I will let down the nets.” But Peter as well, the one who will hand Jesus over out of fear: “I don’t know him!”I have Mass on Sunday, February 9at St. Isidore, 9:30/11:30 amat St. Andrew, 5:00 pm[email protected]...more10minPlay
February 01, 2025Homily for the Feast of the Presentation of the LordSend us Fan MailThe child masks the power of God in apparent weakness, yet it is in just such weakness that the true power of God’s saving love is revealed. I have Mass on Sunday, February 2, at St. Isidore @ 7:30/9:30 amThe 7:30 am Mass will be live streamed. https://stisidore.church/worship-online/[email protected]...more9minPlay
January 25, 2025Homily for Sunday Ordinary 3 C (Sunday of the Word of God)Send us Fan MailI was reading about Handel’s famous “Largo” from the Opera, “Xerxes.” I found the music, sat down at the piano and played it. Reading music is a lot like reading the Word of God. Living the Word of God is like playing the notes. The music only comes alive when played, otherwise it is just black dots on lines on a page. When the melody of God’s Word becomes the song in our lives, we become doers, and not mere hearers of the word. The Word becomes flesh in us.I have Mass on Sunday, January 26 at St. Isidore @ 9:30/11:30 am[email protected]...more10minPlay
January 18, 2025Homily for Sunday Ordinary 2 CSend us Fan MailThe Fourth gospel reveals Jesus’ glory through a series of seven signs. It stands to reason that Jesus’s first public “sign” takes place at a wedding feast, for Jesus himself is the marriage of divinity and humanity. (Icon by Greta Leśko)I have Mass on Sunday, January 19at St. Isidore @ 7:30/9:30 amat St. Andrew @ 5:00 pmSt. Isidore 7:30 am will be live-streamed. https://stisidore.church/worship-online/[email protected]...more10minPlay
January 11, 2025Homily for the Baptism of the Lord, CSend us Fan MailLike a shepherd gathering the lost, the glory of God is the sons and daughters of God coming home. (Reading Isaiah 40:1-5,9-11)I have Mass on Sunday January 12 at St. Isidore @ 7:30/9:30/11:30 amThe 7:30 am Mass is live-streamed https://stisidore.church/worship-online/[email protected]...more10minPlay
January 04, 2025Homily for the EpiphanySend us Fan MailThere is a wonderful line in The Shack: Mack asks Jesus, “Do all roads lead to you?” He replies, “Not at all. Most roads don’t lead anywhere” – and then adds, “What it does mean that I will travel any road to find you.”(Wm. Paul Young, The Shack)I have Mass on Sunday, January 5th at St. Isidore @ 7:30/9:30 amThe 7:30 am Mass will be live-streamed. https://stisidore.church/worship-online/[email protected]...more11minPlay
December 31, 2024Homily for New Year's Eve/DaySend us Fan MailBarbara Brown Taylor notices a change of perspective with Christmas. See how Luke describes it in today’s Gospel: “The shepherds went in haste to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger." (Luke 2:16) “Everyone in the story is looking down, at a baby they could all see. The light had moved. It was coming from below, not above.”I have Mass at Holy Name in Birmingham on December 31 @ 4:00 pm.[email protected]...more9minPlay
