We're back, but unfortunately, Michael Myers is not. This movie switches things up, and focuses on a drunk doctor who goes to a town full of Irish people to figure out the mystery behind the Silver Shamrock masks that are all the rage with the kids (spoiler alert: it involves world domination). We'll also talk about a non-hit SNL sketch, our dog, and what Cordie plans on doing if Theo dies before her.
We're going to let you know upfront, it was a long time between watching this film and recording this episode, but honestly, we don't think it would make much more sense if we had done it immediately. Join us as we follow what happens to Laurie later on that Halloween knight, learn more about the Myers family, and receive some very incorrect information about the holiday Samhain. We'll also talk about time travel, jacuzzi settings, and the classic early 2000s cartoon Rocket Power. Also, sorry about all of the background noise in this one—Cordie and a noisy chair are not a great combo.
We're onto our second franchise, and in honor of the approaching holiday, we decided to make it Halloween. Come along with us to the town of Haddonfield, Illinois, where Michael Myers is out to get Laurie and nobody is concerned that someone stole a combination of rope and knives, which we're pretty sure is a combination that you only get if you're a murderer. We'll also talk about how bad these babysitters are, some grizzly stories that Theo wrote as a child (and Cordie later plagiarized), and what all of the parents are up to while Michael is terrorizing the town.
Here we are, everyone: we've survived all the way through our first franchise. Let's celebrate by talking about that franchise even more, because somehow, we still have stuff to talk about. We'll tease out all the major themes of the franchise that you might have missed, play a Scream-themed trivia game, and give out superlatives to the characters of the films.
We're back this week with the fourth and final installment of the Scream franchise. 11 years later and the gang's all back together, along with some fresh new faces and (of course) a new killer. We'll talk about all of that, as well as the geographical range of bluejays, Ryan Murphy, scary bath bombs, and why Cordie hangs out on top of parking garages.
Trilogies go back to the beginning, and that is certainly what this movie did. Join us as we learn how the movie magic of Hollywood and the origin of the Ghostface killer are somehow connected. We'll also talk about Gale's bangs, Pulitzer Prizes, not drying off after you shower, and why this movie might exist in the same universe as Grey's Anatomy (a show that came out 5 years after this movie).
Randy might think that sequels ruined the horror genre, but we at Freaky Franchise are absolutely here for Scream 2. The body count is bigger. The deaths are more elaborate. Sarah Michelle Gellar is there and we will refer to her as Buffy the Vampire Slayer the entire time. We'll also talk about Gail's new look, college theater programs, dramatic public displays of affection, and songs that remind us of middle school.
For our first episode, we jump into the Scream franchise. Scream might not have been the film that started the slasher movie craze, but it took on just about every trope there is. We'll talk about the rules of a horror movie, the final girl archetype, movie nerds, #feminism, and, of course, the 90s. Also, there might be bird sounds in the background the entire time. Don't worry about it.
