PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Margot Robbie, actress of the film Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood.
Margot Robbie is the leading lady of Quentin Tarantino’s 10th film Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood. In Rome to present the film to the Italian audience along with the director and co-protagonist Leonardo DiCaprio, the actress reveals some behind-the-scene anecdotes, in particular, the directions she was given in the cinema scene, where her character, Sharon Tate, goes to watch her own film to the movie theatre. The film’ screening was The Wrecking Crew and as Tarantino himself had some personal memories about the first time he watched that film, he put everything in the script and in the film.
Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood: Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood visits 1969 Los Angeles, where everything is changing, as TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) make their way around an industry they hardly recognize anymore. PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Leonardo DiCaprio, actor of the film Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood.
Leonardo DiCaprio landed in Rome with his director Quentin Tarantino and co-star Margot Robbie to introduce the Italian release of Tarantino’s 10th film Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood to the Italian audience. The Oscar actor, a muse for many directors, first Martin Scorsese and now Quentin Tarantino, talks about the approach he decided to give to his character, TV actor Rick Dalton, and how he tried to show and capture the nature of this person as the story unfolds in a few days in 1969. Since he has always been chosen as a reference actor and always have shown to be capable of “leading” a film by cinema masters like Martin Scorsese or Alejandro González Iñárritu, he comments on the responsibility that comes along with such power and ability.

PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Quentin Tarantino, director of the film Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood.
After the successful premiere in Cannes 2019 and the very-well welcome US release on July 26th, Quentin Tarantino finally lands in Italy to present the Italian release (September 18th) of Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood to the italian audience. With him, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie. Since it is set in a year, 1969, where the American society, not only Hollywood cinema, went through big and radical changes, the film portrays nostalgic discoveries, settings, musics and at the same time highlights negativities, contradictions and future mistakes. Quentin Tarantino unveils his personal childhood memories about watching films like The Wrecking Crew with Sharon Tate (whom he showed in the film, in a scene with Margot Robbie) and comments on what are the things we should definitely be nostalgic about or even regret about the past in Hollywood: people don’t create sets anymore, the real cinema “artisans” are less and less as they now create everything in post-production. Being in Italy, the director couldn’t escape from explaining once more why and what he loves about a particular type of Italian cinema: the so-called B-movies, the Spaghetti westerns.

PODCAST | Nicolò Comotti interviews Sergei Loznitsa, director of the film The Trial.
FRED had the pleasure to sit down with one of the most profilic filmmakers in contemporary cinema: Sergei Loznitsa. Starting from the Trial, to then move back – and forward! – in time, we get to grasp the extremely interesting ways that the Belarus-borm director has shaped and honed since he decided to make films in the mid 90s.
The Trial: In 1930 in Moscow, USSR. the Soviet government puts a group of top rank economists and engineers on trial, accusing them of plotting a coup d’état. The charges are fabricated and the punishment, if convicted, is death.

PODCAST | Nicolò Comotti interviews Nicholas Elliott, juror and Locarno International Film Festival programmer.
FRED had the pleasure to sit down and have a little but extremely fruitful conversation with film critic and Locarno’s programmer Nicholas Elliott, here in Odessa as a member of the Jury for the National Competition Program.
On July 15, Nicholas Elliott, a member of the Selection Committee of the Locarno International Film Festival, film critic, and jury member of the 10th OIFF National Competition Program, held a meeting with the festival’s visitors “I got into the film industry simply because I started watching films. My parents worshiped the cinema and everything related to it. When I was a teenager, I did not want to do what they did. Every Friday, parents would invite me to go to cinema with them, and I refused. I was 15 years old when I first agreed. And I liked it. I began to go to the cinema often, read a lot about cinema, and discuss it with friends. This started to shape my style of film perception”. “On the one hand, people increasingly devaluate the role of critics, because there are leaders of thoughts like Rotten Tomatoes or social networks. Who needs these film critics now? On the other hand, some events prove that the activity of film critics is needed, but it has to be transformed. For example, there is a huge movement, especially active in the United States, which advocates diversity among critics. Last week, The New York Times published an article about the need for more women critics and representatives of different races. There are also Hollywood stars that raise this problem, such as Bree Larson and Tessa Thompson. In general, it feels strange when me and my colleagues go to the Cannes or some other film festival, and we are surrounded by men, white men exclusively” […]

PODCAST | Nicolò Comotti interviews Karel Och, juror and Karlovy Vary artistic director.
Karel Och, artistic director of the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, is here in Odessa as member of the jury for the International competition. We had therefore the chance to ask him a few questions that may shine a light on how we could all continue our journey within the realm of cinema: as viewers, filmmakers and guardians of cinematic talent.
Meeting with Karel Och, director of the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary and a jury member of the OIFF International Competition Program, took place at the workshop. “We are one of the festivals that do not identify criteria for film selection. When you identify something clearly, you limit not only the films, but also yourself. In a year, your opinion and the films might go beyond this definition”.
