PODCAST | Cristiana Palmieri interviews Geeta Gandbhir, co-director and co-producer of  A Journey of a Thousand Miles: Peacekeepers from the 2016 Sydney Film Festival

The inspiring story of a group of Bangladeshi policewomen who join a UN peacekeeping mission to Haiti, directed by two-time Oscar winners Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Geeta Gandbhir.

A JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES: PEACEKEEPERS: We wanted to make a film about Muslim women who defy stereotypes. The Bangladeshi women who travel overseas to be part of the UN Peacekeeping force do just that. They come from small towns and cities and leave behind families, which often include young children, to travel halfway across the world to serve. These brave women and their stories is just what the world needs to see and hear. – Directors Geeta Gandbhir and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy

  • Luis Gnecco, Mercedes Moran on their roles in “Neruda” #Cannes2016

PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Luis Gnecco and Mercedes Moran, actors of the film Neruda by Pablo Larrain from the 69th Cannes Film Festival.

Actors Luis Gnecco and Mercedes Moran, respectively Pablo Neruda and his wife in the new film by Pablo Larrain, Neruda, talk about their roles and Larrain’s way of directing them on set. Neruda was presented in the Quinzaine des Realizateurs at the 69th Cannes Film Festival.

NERUDA: It’s 1948 and the Cold War has reached Chile. In congress, Senator Pablo Neruda (Luis Gnecco) accuses the government of betraying the Communist Party and is swiftly impeached by President Gonzalez Videla (Alfredo Castro). Police Prefect Oscar Peluchonneau (Gael García Bernal) is assigned to arrest the poet. Neruda tries to flee the country with his wife, the painter Delia del Carril (Mercedes Morán), but they are forced into hiding. Inspired by the dramatic events of his new life as a fugitive, Neruda writes his epic collection of poems, “Canto General”. Meanwhile, in Europe, the legend of the poet hounded by the policeman grows, and artists led by Pablo Picasso clamor for Neruda’s freedom. Neruda, however, sees this struggle with his nemesis Peluchonneau as an opportunity to reinvent himself. He plays with the inspector, leaving clues designed to make their game of cat-and-mouse more dangerous, more intimate. In this story of a persecuted poet and his implacable adversary, Neruda recognizes his own heroic possibilities: a chance to become both a symbol for liberty and a literary legend.

  • Soko, actress of the film “The Stopover” #Cannes2016

PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Soko, actress of the film The Stopover by Delphine Coulin, Muriel Coulin from the 69th Cannes Film Festival.

With two films in which she is featured as a protagonist, The Dancer and The Stopover, actress Soko is without a doubt one of the stars of the 2016 edition of the Cannes Film Festival. In The Stopover, directed by Delephine and Muriel Coulin, she is a female soldier who, after her experiences in Afghanistan, is trying to return to her normal life but must face the demons of vulnerability, weakness and post-traumatic stress disorder. Soko reveals in this podcast that playing the character of a marine was a real challenge for her because, among other things, Soko is a totally different person from the one she portrays in this film.

THE STOPOVER: At the end of their tour of duty in Afghanistan, two young military women, Aurore and Marine, are given three days of decompression leave with their unit at a five-star resort in Cyprus, among tourists. But it’s not that easy to forget the war and leave the violence behind.

  • Gael Garcia Bernal talks about his role in the film “Neruda” #Cannes2016

PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Gael Garcia Bernal on his role in the film Neruda by Pablo Larrain from Cannes 2016.

Neruda marks the second collaboration between Gael Garcia Bernal and director Pablo Larrain, following their previous effort No, which was presented in Cannes in 2012. Neruda, presented in Director’s Fortnight at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival is not a biopic on the Chilean poet. It is more of a can and mouse game betwee Pablo Neruda (played by Luis Gnecco) and the chaser, the Police prefect Oscar Peluchonneau (Bernal). In this interview, Bernal reveals how he loves being directed by Larrain and why, even though everytime he works with him, he doesn’t have a clue about what the director is in the process of creating until the end of the shoot.

NERUDA: It’s 1948 and the Cold War has reached Chile. In congress, Senator Pablo Neruda (Luis Gnecco) accuses the government of betraying the Communist Party and is swiftly impeached by President Gonzalez Videla (Alfredo Castro). • Gabriele Mainetti, director of “They Call Me Jeeg” #OpenRoads2016

PODCAST | Samantha Sartori interviews Gabriele Mainetti, director of They Call Me Jeeg, from the 2016 Open Roads: New Italian Cinema

They Call Me Jeeg is one of the most talked-about movies of the past years in Italy, where the movie was in the theater for four months and now, after great demand, is going to be re-released. They Call Me Jeeg was selected for the Open Roads New Italian Cinema Festival in New York, and will be released in the US in January following Japan, France, and South America. We meet Gabriele Mainetti to talk about the enormous success of the movie in Italy and festivals around the world, and how he worked on set with Claudio Santamaria and Luca Marinelli.

THEY CALL ME JEEG (Lo Chiamavano Jeeg Robot): After a plunge into Rome’s toxic Tiber River, Enzo (Claudio Santamaria), a porn-addicted petty criminal, finds himself transformed into an indestructible, superhuman strongman. Against his own instincts, he becomes something of an avenging angel: the protector of an emotionally fragile, anime-obsessed young woman (who believes he is the robot hero of the 1970s manga series Steel Jeeg) and the nemesis of a sadistic, germophobic gangster (Luca Marinelli). This gritty, grimy take on the superhero film is the antidote to Hollywood-slick blockbusters. It’s bloody, bruising, bone-crunching, and a total blast. An Uncork’d Entertainment release.
