PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Chris Buck and Peter Del Vecho, director and producer of the film Frozen 2.
“As soon as you think you found your way, a new road opens up”. Co-director (with Jennifer Lee) Chris Buck and producer Peter Del Vecho of Frozen 2 comment on one of the new challenges Elsa and Anna have to face in the second chapter of this Walt Disney Animation success coming out in theatres on November 22nd and in Italy on 27th. Elsa and Anna are adults now and they feel the responsibility of their people, of Arendelle’s destiny. Is there a burden and such a responsibility in directing/producing a film like Frozen 2 that directly talks to children already in love with Anna, Elsa and Olaf ? Chris Buck and Peter Del Vecho also comment on the possibility for a spin-off since the post credits scene will leave the audience with some hope.
Frozen 2: Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she’ll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey. In Frozen, Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In Frozen 2, she must hope they are enough. From the Academy Award-winning team—directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, producer Peter Del Vecho and songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez—and featuring the voices of Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad, Frozen 2 opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 22, 2019.

PODCAST | Sarah Bradbury interviews on the red carpet of the BFI London Film Festival Robert De Niro, Anna Paquin, Harvey Keitel and Stephen Graham, actors of the film The Irishman.
Martin Scorsese’s ninth collaboration with Robert De Niro finds the master filmmaker returning to the genre he has helped define, with a mystery that has never been solved.
The Irishman: Who killed Jimmy Hoffa? A labour leader and the infamous head of the Teamsters union, whose connections with organised crime were wide ranging, his career ended with a conviction for jury tampering, attempted bribery and fraud, but he was pardoned by President Nixon in 1971. Not long after, he disappeared. Declared legally dead in 1982, various theories have circulated as to what happened to him. Few are as convincing as that told by Frank ‘The Irishman’ Sheeran. The account he revealed to journalist Charles Brandt and published in the 2004 book I Heard You Paint Houses, is the basis of this riveting, epic crime drama. Written by Gangs of New York collaborator Steven Zaillian (Schindler’s List), Scorsese’s The Irishman weaves an engrossing and intricate web of connected events, audaciously cutting back and forth across decades. Presented through the prism of Sheeran’s (De Niro) memories of his criminal past, the film uses state-of-the-art visual effects to ‘de-age’ the cast from their 70s through their 30s. The seamless (and astonishing) post-production allows Scorsese to bring together a favoured megawatt cast, all on exceptional form: the former Goodfellas pairing of De Niro and Joe Pesci (out of retirement here for Scorsese), alongside Harvey Keitel, Stephen Graham, Anna Paquin, Jesse Plemons, Bobby Cannavale and Ray Romano. Al Pacino, appearing for the first time in a Scorsese film, gives a performance as Jimmy Hoffa so good you’ll want to watch scenes again straight away, not least the many two-handers with Pacino’s Hoffa and De Niro’s Irishman Sheeran, whose friendship forms the heart of the film. What a way to close the LFF – with a total showstopper.

When he turns up dead, the apparent victim of a murder, it seems that no-one has a motive for killing the golden goose. At least, that’s what the detectives assigned to the case think. But Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) – the debonair ‘Kentucky-fried’ private investigator mysteriously hired by an anonymous source – has other ideas.

PODCAST | Chiara Nicoletti interviews Casey Affleck and Anna Pniowsky, director/ actor and actress of the film Light of My Life.
How important are stories in life? Metaphors we can connect or identify with, whether they’re written, filmed or narrated? Casey Affleck starts his feature film directorial debut, Light of my life, with a bedtime story told to a 11 years old daughter by her father in a distopic world where women, girls, disappeared due to a fatal plague. The film is the closing event of the 17th Alice nella Città and it stars Affleck playing “Father” along with the young and talented Anna Pniowsky playing Rag, his daughter. To create stories is very important for both actors as it is a way for a person to enter new worlds, to connect with people, to interact and grow up. Casey Affleck and his young star Anna created a bond on set that is the key to the strong chemistry as father and daughter they have in the film.
Light of My Life: A father tells his child a story. It is evening, and they are lying in a tent in the middle of the forest. What at first glance appears idyllic turns out to be an exceptional situation: in this post-pandemic world, the father is doing everything in his power to protect Rag. When the exhausted pair is taken in by three old men, danger seems to be averted, and perhaps a home and surrogate family has been identified. But this is a desperate and violent world, and the small measure of peace the parent and child find is soon lost. As humanity teeters on the brink of collapse, it is not the survival of the species that concerns us, it is the single child. But it is the nature of children to demand change. Innocence is lost. Tragedy closes in. And nature looks on, detached.
