After Ladybird, Greta Gerwig directs a new version of Little Women, the classical novel by Louisa May Alcott. Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh and Timothée Chalamet are the lead protagonists of the movie, set in the American 19th century.
Little Women: Louisa May Alcott’s autobiographical account of her life with her three sisters in Concord, Massachusetts in the 1860s. With their father fighting in the American Civil War, sisters Jo, Meg, Amy and Beth are at home with their mother, a very outspoken women for her time.

After his Festival de Cannes’ premiere, Ken Loach has just presented his latest film, Sorry We Missed You to the Italian audience as it will be in italian cinema theatres with Lucky Red distribution from January 2nd on. Despite the title which refers to the message couriers and drivers leave at a person when they can’t find them to pick up their package, the film deals with the absence of parents, the loneliness men and women feel when their life becomes all about their job and survival. Ken Loach gives once again a voice to over-exploited workers, not only drivers in his country, England, but people all over the world who feel they can’t get out of a vicious circle. The younger generations are our only hope, Ken Loach declares, especially when it comes to climate change problems. Greta Thunberg facing Trump is one great example of what young people can do if they only understand how much power they have to really change our world.

During the course of this interview, Mehta also praises the good work done by IFFAM and its team, as well as his latest work, Dehli Crime, which premiered on Netflix earlier this year and that he defines as “a massive independent film.”

He also discusses his opinion on the discourse around cinema today and whether he believes we live in an age of opinions rather than an age of ideas. Finally, given that he is, as mentioned, president of the jury for the New Chinese Cinema competition of Macao’s international film festival, he tells us what he thinks about current Chinese cinema and reveals that he is not a great believer in the idea of “national cinemas.”

An interview with Colombian director Rafael Martínez Moreno, director of The Missed Round, presented in the International Panorama section of the 2019 Cairo International Film Festival. The film takes place among the lower classes and in the modern day boxing world of Cartagena, which was once a boxing capital of the world. Martínez Moreno talks about his choice of using non-actors and meeting the real life boxer who plays the role of the protagonist – El Piedra.
The Missed Round: A man and a child try to sort each other’s emotional behaviour and attitude towards life. The man is a boxer whose past is behind him and the child has an unknown future but he decides to make his own through a childish adventure that each of them needs to go through till the end.
