Former Urbana football coach Joe Polce has been the the head coach at Walkersville since 2010.

Polce, served as the Lions defensive coordinator under former coach Ryan Hines. Polce is a Walkersville graduate. He lives in the community with his wife, Chrissy, and sons, Josh and Jake.

DOUG WILLIAMS IS an easy-going football coach who says he emphasizes relationships over winning. In that case, Catoctin High School is perfect for him.

Since the school started playing football, it has had only nine winning seasons. The Cougars did not win a football game in their first three seasons. Except for the late-1970s and early-1980s (they were unbeaten and won 20 straight in 1982 and 1983), the school has struggled. Since coming to Catoctin in 1992, Williams has a 51-69 record with three winning seasons.

Bobby Humphries’ desire to coach started with the influence of the late Ben Wright. But teaching the Xs and Os of football served as just one reason for choosing the kind of career path Humphries envisioned for himself as he began his tenure as Head football coach at Governor Thomas Johnson High School.

Brad Wilson stepped down in 2014 after 11 seasons with the Westminster Owls  so that he and his wife could move to Raleigh and live closer to their college-age daughters. For the past three seasons, he has been the head coach of Leesville Road High School in the Raleigh area.

However, when he learned the Urbana job had come open, the itch to come back to this area and coach was strong.

He is now The Head Coach of the Urbana Hawks.

Jerry Smith grew up in Brunswick. He played football for the high school team. Later, in separate stints, he served as the junior varsity coach and varsity defensive coordinator. So this, in many ways, seemed like the next logical step in his career progression.

Smith is well aware of what the public perception might be of his new position. Smith resigned as the Patriots’ coach because he desired a reduced work load and wanted to spend more time with his family, but returned when the Brunswick position became available.
