    Title: A Surprising Conversation
    Speaker: Rev. Gordon Ferguson
Broadcaster: Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern
    Event: Sunday - PM
    Date: 7/3/2016
    Bible: Acts 16:30-31
    Length: 46 min. (64kbps)

Overview: 1. The sovereignty of God in the conversion of the Philippian jailor.--- the Philippian jailor had no intention of getting saved, but God had other plans--- a false accusation against Paul and Silas resulted in this jailor getting saved--- if we could look at the vantage point that God has, you would be able to see how God has directed you--- thank God for his sovereignty in Christ in choosing you for salvation before the foundation of the world----2. The jailor almost did not get saved.--- the jailor probably looked on these people as fools--- prior to the earthquake, he turned a deaf ear to what they had to say and was fast asleep--- At the midnight hour, God moved in a miraculous way and caused a great earthquake--- The jailer was responsible for every prisoner and if he lost his prisoners he lost his life--- he was ready to kill himself and was within seconds of going to hell when out came the cry from Paul- do thyself no harm--- In one sense, humanly speaking, the salvation of this man almost did not take place----3. There was something going on behind the scenes that lead to this man getting right with God.--- By this, we mean the activity of Paul and Silas who were faithful to God in witnessing to Christ--- Paul and Silas were singing and praising God--- we would most likely be grumbling about our treatment and feeling sorry for ourselves--- why did the other prisoners not try to escape---- the presence of God came down and silenced them----4. When the Philippian jailor asked his question, he was given the best advice possible.----5. The good news is that the jailor gave heed to what he was told.

    Title: The Sleeping Church
    Speaker: Rev. Gordon Ferguson
Broadcaster: Free Presbyterian Church of Malvern
    Event: Sunday - PM
    Date: 6/26/2016
    Bible: Song of Solomon 5:2
    Length: 46 min. (64kbps)

Overview: The verse we are looking at in this message describes a strain- -I sleep but my heart wakens-. The Song of Solomon speaks of the relationship between Christ and the church. The church is described as a garden with fragerance and fruitfulness seen in the testimony of believers and the winning of lost souls. The church does not always have fellowship it should have. The church can become careless, cold and complacent. -I sleep- describes a strain in the relationship. Things are not as they ought to be.----1. What caused the strain---- it was not the fault Christ--- it is the fault if the church--- the church was not completely asleep as something is stirring inside--- Lot is an example as he was greedy for the well-watered plains near Sodom. Physically he was awake but spiritually he was sleeping----2. What aggravated the strain---- the plea from the beloved --open to me- but the bride did not respond---- an indication of suffering --my head is filled with dew----- an indifference to Christ --I have put off my coat- how shall I put it on-------3. How the bride came to feel the strain---- -I opened to my beloved- but my beloved had withdrawn himself---- Christ withdraws himself--- Christ is not at our beckon call--- God does not act in spiteful ways but he does chasten--- God is a wise and loving Father--- Christ's withdrawal and chastening makes the church long for Christ all the more--- reconciliation would eventually be accomplished --I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine--

Overview: God is sufficient and can provide all our needs. Elijah proved this and proved God throughout his life. We need to prove God as well.----1. Elijah proved God in many ways and in many different situations----- Elijah proved God at Gilead when he prayed that God would withhold the rain--- Elijah proved God at the brook Cherith where the Lord sent ravens to feed him--- Elijah proved God at Zarephath where a widow fed him--- Elijah proved God when he pleaded for the dead child's life to be restored--- Elijah proved God at Mount Carmel where he was confident that Baal would not answer but the Lord would--- Elijah proved God in a time when he was depressed----2. In order to prove God, we need to be guided by the Word of God and be obedient to it----- 1 Kings 18-1- -the word of the Lord came to Elijah---- If we want to prove God, we must be people of the Book--- We get to know God through the Bible--- Those who prove God must be men and women of prayer--- The Christian life is one of constant interaction between our soul and God--- When you are a praying person and a submissive person, you will prove God in extraordinary ways--- If we prove God in life and live in submission to Him, we will prove God in death

    Event: Sunday - PM
    Date: 6/19/2016
    Bible: Ecclesiastes 1:2
    Length: 51 min. (64kbps)

Overview: The book of Ecclesiastes shows us the emptiness of the things of this world and is so doing prepares us for the beauty of the things of Christ found in the Song of Solomon. -All is vanity- shows us the emptiness of a life that is lived without God. Nothing could be more empty than a life without God.----1. Solomon is not speaking to us as a King but speaking to us as a Preacher--- a King deals with matters of this life--- a Preacher deals with the weighty things of eternity----2. Solomon says the world is an empty place--- Solomon as a king over a prosperous kingdom was in a unique position to evaluate the things of this life--- Solomon had great wisdom and knew exactly what was taking place in the world--- Solomon understood human nature and saw the folly of immorality and drink and knew the value of godliness--- Solomon also involved himself in base pleasures--- Solomon found in his wisdom and experience that this world is an empty place----3. How can we be delivered from the things of this world---- -If it is all so empty, I don't want it- you would think we would say--- But there is a perversity in our hearts that wants the things we should not have--- If we would be delivered, we need to think of death--- Go to the house of mourning to help you think soberly regarding the empty things of this world--- If we would be delivered, we need to think of judgment--- God shall bring every work into judgement, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil

The miracles of Christ are true and literal events that are filled with spiritual significance. There are three things that speak to us of gospel truth in the miracle of the healing of the leper-----1. He had a condition that was pathetic.--He is a leper.--The condition resulted in defilement.--The condition resulted deformity.--The condition resulted in death.--It is a clear picture of human sin.----2. He had a confession that was powerful.--The confession- if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.--This was a confession of humility.--This was a confession of helplessness.--This was a confession of hope.----3. He had a cure that was provided.--Jesus was moved with compassion.--The willingness of Christ -I will- be though clean---The work of Christ -Christ put forth his hand---The word of Christ -as soon as he had spoken-
