Thousands of commentators, some very well known, and others not so well known, have been rotting in “Twitter jail” for months and in some cases years, due to Twitter’s incredibly politicised and ideologised content moderation policies, which really came into their own during the Covid pandemic (here’s a description of my own case, which amply illustrates the level to which Twitter’s moderation process had become corrupted by vested interests). But the regressive, anti-scientific and anti-philosophical Twitter regime that Elon Musk inherited appears to be falling to pieces. One of the nails in its coffin is Musk’s recent announcement of an amnesty for permanently banned accounts.

Elon Musk had promised to “free the bird” a long time ago, but some of us were getting quite fidgety as we were only seeing the accounts of high profile figures being restored. Finally, a few days ago, Musk announced his intention to apply an “amnesty” to accounts that had been suspended by Twitter (for reasons not related to illegality or fraud).
If Musk is true to his promise, then this will be a really important step forward for freedom of speech, and for a healthier and more genuinely inclusive public sphere. Of course, there will always be toxic conversations on Twitter - that just seems inevitable. However, we can be optimistic that Musk’s amnesty, and the general moderation philosophy he is advocating (focus on legality, not politics), may very well spell the end of the current regime of Woke, Big Government, and Big Pharma censorship on Twitter.
The mere fact that dissenting scientific and political voices will finally be heard on Twitter is a big step forward for social progress and I am hopeful it will make for a more open and rational digital “town square,” given the enormous reach of this platform. It was brave of Elon Musk to do this, given that he was being hounded by leftist activists and big advertisers were threatening to put their Twitter advertising campaigns on hold, which is no small thing, given Twitter’s heavy dependence on advertising income.
Freedom lovers all over the world will be watching closely to see how this “general amnesty” will be applied. But if it goes through - and there is no reason to think it will not - it will certainly be fun to openly discuss the issues Big Pharma, Big Government, (some) Big Tech, and Big Media would prefer to keep under wraps, and to do so without fear of being suspended or shadow-banned by Woke and mass vax activists at the drop of a hat.
By the way, I will of course keep you posted on the return of my Twitter account, @davidjthunder.

* the ethics of vaccine mandates
* the importance of trusting citizens during a public crisis
* the vital importance of individualised, patience-centred healthcare
* the revolution in pandemic management
* the slide toward tyranny, and
* what citizens can do now to protect their freedoms

In this episode of Thunder Off Script (recorded on Tuesday, 22nd September 2022), I suggest that we should not be complacent about the future of representative democracy. History demonstrates that the drift toward corruption and despotism is only reversed when brave citizens put their reputations, livelihoods, or personal well-being at risk in order to defend the freedom of all.

In this episode of Thunder Off Script (Thursday, 25th August 2022), I'd like to discuss a peculiar sensation of disconnection from the "reality" being fed to me by official sources and mainstream media over the past couple of years, a sensation reminiscent of what happened to the protagonist of The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey.

In this episode of Thunder Off Script, I explain why centralising public health governance in an international body such as the WHO rests on a naive understanding of the limited capacities of centralised organs of governance, as well as the human potential for corruption and bias. If we've learnt anything from the past few years, it is that hyper-centralising public authority is disastrous for human health and well-being. In today’s episode of Thunder Off Script, I interview economist and entrepreneur Dr Nicholas Gruen about Twitter's philosophy of content moderation, how money and politics can corrupt the infrastructure of our public sphere, and how we might design a public sphere that is more geared toward serious discussion, and less subject to arbitrary power and shallow emotivism.

Many thanks to Trish Wood for a wide-ranging interview (19/3/22) on TNT Radio, touching on a range of topics related to freedom and State and corporate domination, including the truckers’ protest in Ottawa, Twitter censorship, and the role of civil society in resisting a domineering State.
I am delighted to share with you a slightly excerpted, 45 minute version of the interview.
Here are some of the topics we covered:
* the relentless persecution of unvaccinated citizens in Canada
* Prime Minister Trudeau’s handling of the Freedom Convoy protest in Ottawa and his decision to freeze donors’ bank accounts
* what the scientific evidence actually shows about the efficacy of community masking
* how dictators have historically shored up their power by projecting a class of citizens as a “public enemy”
* how vaccine discrimination breaks the social contract, with potentially far-reaching implications for political stability and the legitimacy of our public institutions
* why I was kicked off Twitter, and why my appeals came to nothing
* how we can fight back against forms of tyranny enacted in the name of “the people” (“democratic despotism”) by strengthening our civil society institutions

In today’s episode, I’d like to share with you a short reflection on war and vulnerability, to shed a little light on one of the most dangerous military conflicts in Europe since the second world war.
