What does it actually look like to heal in real time—in the middle of the messy, ordinary moments when life is lifing and your nervous system is completely fired up?
I’m sharing a story I’ve carried with me for years: the first time I experienced the power of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) tapping not in a session, not in therapy, and not after the fact—but in the thick of motherhood, while I was still holding all the heat of the moment.
I was camping alone with my two-year-old daughter when I became overwhelmed, overstimulated, and eventually lost my shit. I needed a minute. And sitting by the fire, still angry and activated, I found myself tapping.
Within minutes, I could feel myself coming back to myself.
What happened next—being able to reconnect with my daughter, repair, and respond from a more grounded place—changed the way I understood healing.
In this episode, I’m sharing what that experience taught me about:
- healing while the pattern is actually happening
- the emotional “residue” we carry from everyday interactions
- why our reactions can sometimes feel bigger than the moment itself
- EFT tapping and somatic practices as tools for real-time regulation
- the difference between reacting from an old pattern and responding from conscious choice
- repairing with our children after we get it wrong
- how guilt and shame keep us stuck in old patterns
- creating a new “software program” for the way we want to show up
- and what it means to come back to yourself again and again
Because healing isn't about becoming someone who never gets angry, overwhelmed, or dysregulated.
It’s learning how to return.
And sometimes, that return can happen right in the middle of the moment.
