  • 96. "A Star Is Born" // Cigar City (FL) // Trim Tab (AL)
This week on Fresh Hop Cinema we review of "A Star Is Born;" the fourth remake of a Hollywood tradition dating back to 1937. In this iteration, Bradley Cooper directs while costarring next to silver screen first-timer Lady Gaga. This film is a cautionary tale of fame and alcoholism, a telling of a star's rise in the modern music industry and ultimately a pendulum of romance and heartbreak.
We drink a craft beer industry staple in "Jai Alai." This IPA from Cigar City Brewing is a 7.5% mouthful of citrusy goodness. To end the show, we discuss a beer from Birmingham brewery Trim Tab called "Breakfast Hero." It's an 8.5% imperial stout with ACTUAL doughnuts added to the mash! Too crazy OR just crazy enough to be delicious?!
    Episode Timeline:

  • 92. "The Rider" // Toppling Goliath (IA) // Prairie (OK)
We're a little late to the game but we're here to discuss Chloé Zhao's April 2018 film "The Rider." The film flirts a delicate line between documentary and drama as it tells the true story of Brady Jandreau, a rodeo cowboy who suffers a traumatic brain injury and may never ride again. For the most part, the cast of this film is made up of the actual people who lived the events.
