Welcome to Episode 3 of Fresh Look with Hen Mazzig featuring Arizona State Representative Alma Hernandez, the first Mexican-American Jew to win an elected position in the United States in 2018. A rising leader in progressive politics and an outspoken advocate for Israel and the Jewish community, Representative Hernandez will share her unique perspective on what it means to be a progressive Zionist in the legislature and on campus as a faculty member in public health at Arizona State University. In her job as a State Representative, Hernandez serves Tucson's Third District in the Arizona House of Representatives, where she serves on the Health and Human Services and the Federal Relations committees. She is also a board member at Jewish Family Children’s Services of Southern Arizona and was recently named among the top 50 most influential Jews in the country.

This week’s episode will feature a robust discussion on antisemitism. Our featured guest Daniella Rabbani lives in the nexus of art, culture, and politics in the global Jewish community. Daniella is an award-winning actress and her credentials include several productions with New York’s famed National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene, which brings Yiddish-language theater back to life, The Americans, and Ocean’s 8. Daniella is a second-generation descendent of Holocaust survivors and an outspoken advocate for Israel and the American Jewish community.

For our first guest, we wanted to bring in someone who not only understands the ins and outs of Israeli politics, but who can connect them to the challenges in the diaspora.

Michal Cotler-Wunsh worked her way up from an IDF recruit to a member of Israel’s 23rd Knesset. Michal is also a human rights advocate who has inspired thousands around the world to stand up for justice and equality.
