Fresh Meat Podcast

Time is relative and in the case of this episode not always what it seems.

We start Fresh Meat Podcast 14 with “See You On Monday” by Herbert.

Nathan and I talk about our shared love for Matthew Herbert’s music while Boots the cat talks in the background.

Without naming it, I mention Herbert’s P.C.C.O.M. manifesto and we move on to tracks by Hunee, Frank De Wulf, and an early 90s tune named “Get Into The Music” by Tech Man 1.

      

I am drawn to the bass line in the track and guess the sound might have come from a Yamaha TX81Z. After my DJ mix, Nathan discusses the narrow view that techno purists sometimes hold about sound design; how they would disregard a track like Tuff Jam’s “My Love (Mix 1)”. Nathan exalts the emotional presence of Tuff Jam’s cut, describing its sonic architecture as ‘unimpeachable.’ We talk about Horace Andy’s “Skylarking”. I incorrectly say that to skylark is to loiter when in reality skylarking is fooling around or acting estranged. We end the show with “I Need You” by Vincent Floyd, an instrumental released in 1996 on Subwoofer.

This recording was made on May 1st. Mazi’s DJ mix was recorded on April 26th. Corrections this time include the name for The Pilotwings track “Trance Beats” from their Agorespace EP on the label Brothers From Different Mothers. We finally give the track title, “Console Cowboy”, and EP name, A New Room, for Garrett David’s fantastic new record on Gramaphone. We begin this episode with songs connected to San Francisco, discuss Bill Drummond’s (KLF) thoughts on the demise of recorded music, and find it difficult to describe the music we play in terms of genres.

Born in Athens, Greece in 1980, Stelios Vassiloudis has been an active DJ/Producer in the electronic House music scene for the last 6 years.

During this relatively short time period he has managed to craft a strong sound and standing earning him the respect and admiration of his peers and club goers alike. With partners Florian Kruse and Nils Nuernberg, Stel’s Wiretappeur pseudonym has gained international acclaim. Hits like “I Want You” and “Colours” for Fresh Meat Records and new productions for John Digweed’s Bedrock Records have helped spread the mark of Stel’s creative output.

This special end of Summer mix for Fresh Meat Danceteria features Stel’s unique take on a hybrid clubby house sound. Featured here, as with every episode of Climate, is a compelling mix of vibrant tunes straight from the modern dance floor.

Fresh Meat Podcast 5, the second installment of our "Out of Print" show, features a live vinyl mix by Chicago's Tyrel Williams.

From his residency at Dotbleep to his infamous Acid Test nights at Smart Bar, Tyrel twists-up dance floors with his heady mix of deep house music and acid tracks. This mix features some of Tyrel's favorite songs mixed in the hedonistic Chicago style. Chicago DJs favor vibe and energy over the typical formalistic dogma which is so entrenched in the modern DJ mindset. In our city, the long held belief (R.I.P. Ron) is that good dance music exists without respect to genre, which is how Tyrel moves between "styles" on this mix with such ease and grace.
