Hey Hey Fresh PT Fam!
"Common sense isn't always common practice." – Dr. Javi Carlin
This week we have a special episode with Dr. Javier "Javi" Carlin. In this episode, Andrew is a guest on Dr. Javi's Facebook Live and they drive through Andrew's journey to becoming a Physical Therapist. Andrew shares his advice on how to conquer the NPTE board exam, why he and Matt started the Fresh PT Podcast, and the top 5 things you need to know as a New Grad PT starting your career.
Dr. Javi Carlin is the Clinic Director of Renewal Rehabilitation and Fitness. Soon after he graduated from Florida International University's DPT program, it didn't take long for Javi to realize he needed to do something more, something different. Not only is he a Clinic Director, but he is a servant leader giving back to his peers and offering guidance in how to be successful as a New Grad PT. Learn more about Javi by following him on Facebook at Javier A. Carlin or Instagram @drjaviercarlin or @thenewgradptmentors.
Dr. Mario Beltran joins the guys to talk about a number of important topics for new grads, including how to manage the often frustrating population of workers comp.
He talks about balancing needs and wants when coming out of school. Mario chose his first job because of the sports residency that was offered. It ended up not being what he thought and learned more about his own learning style in the process.
Mario goes on to describe how a hybrid online and in person residency matches what he wants with how he learns best. If you can align these two things, you're on your way to becoming the best therapist you can be.
