Friendly Potential Radio

Albin is a Brazilian musician, promoter, broadcaster, and the label head of Yellow Island Records. Since 2011, he been throwing parties, and has collaborated with Brazilian collectives including MASTERp la n o, 101Ø, and Goma rec. He has been a monthly resident at Balamii Radio and Internet Public Radio for about a year, and has regular slots on Rinse France. Through his label, he has released works from Nørus, Etari, Kessler, and Moodrich. We travel back to Saturday October 31st, when Orchestra of Spheres took the stage at the third edition of Catacombs. Relive the madness, or get lost in it for the first time.

Since 2003, HTRK have built an incredible sonic universe, through their multiple studio albums, and work with luminaries Rowland S Howard and Mika Vainio. They appear busier than ever, as they work on another full length of sacred mood music. Tonight, Jonnine and Nigel bring together a textured little escape, at moments filled with bliss, and at others with some unease. We've been trying to get them on the FPR almost since its inception, and are rapt that it has finally happened.

Despite the sudden cancellation, this broadcast is still technically in advance of their live show in Tāmaki Makaurau.

It's the Grecco Romank takeover!

Last week, Auckland trio Grecco Romank released their album Red Tower as a download, cassette, and exclusive perfume. The album was created in the South Island, written in a farmhouse during lockdown and recorded at an abandoned primary school during lambing season. We celebrate the release with a heartfelt journey through lost New Beat, one hit wonders, and Aotearoa avant garde, peppered throughout with recordings of riots and office arguments.

Their multifaceted outputs include immersive installations, guided tours, workshops, improvised performance, and an online radio station that has been broadcasting since 2020. They are also set to open Commonspace on Taranaki St in Wellington on 21st July - an environment run by and for the community they hold dear. Otto Vlotto is one of the progenitors of footwork in NZ, and Midi Waters has spent 25+ years in the trenches of dance music. Midi Waters starts off the show with some summer dancefloor heaters. The duo then go cheek-to-cheek for a bit, before Otto Vlotto gets into some hard tekkaz. It's two hours of blisteringly good music bbs.

About the mix:

For this mix I took a dive into meditative club music. A whole lot from the early to mid 90s, a few classics with a couple of newer bits peppered in. Mostly CD's. A few ambient people trying their hand at tribal downtempo stuff, some left-of-center house and new beat, a couple of trance tracks and a few peak-time rave goodies. Mostly pitched down to a slightly more manageable speed ;)

In 1998, at age 15, Kaspar became the youngest resident DJ at the Lux Frágil in Lisbon. Since then, he has toured the world, and released over two dozen records for Clone Records, Tomorrow Is Now Kid, Groovement, 4lux Recordings, RAWAX, and his own Percebes imprint. He contributes a deftly mixed hour of recent favourites to start the show.

ABOUT THE MIX:

I often do theme mixes, and narrative derived sequences and blends, but this one is not the best example. This one is just me having fun with some of the recent material I got this year that I’m enjoying mixing up and tapping to. It’s just my kind of approach: subtle, varied, nuanced, often unpredictable and almost always subject of much philosophical debate. LOL. Seriously, it’s just me enjoying some cool recent tunes that I feel are also influencing my sound and the vibe of my music. It’s sort of a steady and rising sequence that you can get into and enjoy, tenderly mixed to avoid bumps and make this flow effortlessly

CURRENT / FUTURE PROJECTS:

After three albums in one year, the most recent of which is “Gestures Of Release” on my label Percebes Música, I want to take some time out from the studio and focus on the label, it’s artists and my DJ career. We have an amazing new compilation coming out and are developing albums with / by Hélder Russo, Daino and Sheri Vari as well as up and coming talent from Lisbon.

Personally, I’m waiting for my next release on a Bristol label called Phutureshock Musik (just recently released a killer record by Trinidadean Deep), that’s a more freestyle record with downtempo and hip hop beats and only a couple of broken steppers and house stompers. Also did an acid EP for Snuff Trax that has a great 2Jack4U remix, but that’s on hold because of some editorial complications I’m hoping will get sorted soon. Trying to be the kind of guy people like to know what’s up to :)
