A record fanantic, DJ, supporter and a forever-student of music, Luke Skinny (fka Luke the Funky Kid) was born in South Korea and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where his passion for music developed. On the dance floor, Luke displays an uncompromising style of dance music influenced by Chicago and Detroit veterans such as Derrick Carter, Derrick May and Theo Parrish. But when the party's over and it's time to forget about the bpms and secret weapons, he soaks himself into the world of jazz, ambient, soul, whatever that will please him. As a record collector, he is a loyal customer of Clique Records and Mosaic Seoul, two essential record shops in the underground scene of Seoul.

Voronoi is the ambient electronic project of the itinerant artist, writer, and electronic musician Richard B. Keys. With Voronoi Keys synthesises a range of influences spanning ambient music, noise, electro-acoustic, neo-classical, film music, and high definition sound design. Drawing inspiration from the Voronoi tessellation — an equation that is used to both model actual landscapes and at the same time to construct virtual ones — his productions employ hybrid sampling and synthesis techniques to weave irreal ambient soundscapes. His recently released Mountains & Rivers EP is available through sonorous circle.

This mix was developed from a hastily constructed Spotify playlist that the artist put together in anticipation of flying internationally during the unfolding Covid-19 pandemic. The track list, which features some of my favourite recent ambient releases, was selected to promote a sense of calm to allay my fears of contagion and flying, while still acknowledging and playing with the sense of dislocation and the uncanny that was invoked by the experience of travelling internationally during the pandemic. The original playlist soundtrack my journey as I passed through heightened broader security, empty airport terminals, and boarded a sparsely populated plane flight, before coming to rest in a government quarantine facility upon arriving home. Vertigo Inc. is the second coming of storied Montreal producer Leon Louder. Since 2014, he has used this project to release off-kilter, experimental house jams. These have been captured primarily via his homegrown Unfulfillment label, although the title track for his EP The Water Margin for UK label Mysticisms was a cornerstone of Powder's cosmic 2019 compilation for Beats In Space. Tonight we celebrate his recent Qui Volé EP, a release that sees him nest FM mantras among swirling rhythm sections; a hypnotic release for paranoid times.

Denver McCarthy is a foundational figure in the NZ electronic scene. As Micronism, his Inside A Quiet Mind LP and Steps to Recovery EP are understated classics, full of quiet power. Denver abruptly left the music world in 1999, and entered a Krishna ashram. Now based in Brisbane, his work has recently been reissued via Loop and Delsin Records, and Denver has begun to make music again. We air a mix that canvasses 25 years of his creations, made in home studios from 1994 to last week.
