Mr. Meaty Boy is a multi-disciplinary Māori artist based in Pōneke. They have recently returned to the hills of Wellington after their introduction to the underground dance music scene of Ōtautahi. Their sets draw on footwork, house, and techno to create something they term ‘techno fetish’ - encouraging a more playful and open response from club listeners. They run a club night initiative with other Ōtautahi artists called WAY.PNT that endeavours to connect the artists of other underground scenes in Aotearoa. Here, we hear what they do best.

For this year's Aotearoa music special, we are joined by Tāmaki Makaurau based selector Oaariki. Oaariki is a deejay, broadcaster, and photographer, who helms ’The Stoop’ on Base FM. He is also well regarded for his annual mix of music from around the motu. This time, we are blessed to share his edition for 2022.

In 1994, Durban artist Sandy B released Amajovi Jovi. It was a six-track education on kwaito music, and a rare find, until Invisible City Editions lovingly reissued it in 2017. That reissue caught the ear of Simone Aha, who linked with Sandile in South Africa and released the Qhum Qhaks LP that same year. We're so honoured to have him join us with this bubblegum vs kwaito mix. Stunningly, it is full of shouts from other icons of the scene.
