Today I speak with Michelle Oravitz.

Michelle brings a wealth of knowledge and perspective to the fertility conversation, especially around holistic support and tradition systems of health and balance. And I love her ethos, which greatly aligns with mine and what Fringe Fertility is ALL about.

Michelle Oravitz is an acupuncturist, specializing in Fertility Health. She found her love in Chinese medicine after it helped her through her own menstrual cycle challenges.

Michelle has been on a mission to help women get pregnant (naturally and IVF preparation) through her one on one work at her acupuncture clinic as well as online. She recently authored a new book, The Way of Fertility, which dives deep into the energetics of fertility through the lens of ancient wisdom. Michelle believes that our bodies are hardwired to procreate and by connecting to our inherent wisdom, we can awaken our natural reproductive vitality.

Often our first stop on the fertility train is western medicine and the IVF clinic. When getting pregnant takes longer than we thought, or we know of a certain condition that will make pregnancy a little more difficult - we are looking for answers. I believe that support in the clinic and outside of the clinic with mind/body practices can be extremely complimentary.

So  then, what do reproductive endocrinologists think about more holistic methods of support for the fertility journey. Well - you’re going to find out in this episode!

I speak with the amazing Dr. Alison Zimon of CCRM New England. We get her professional opinion of mind/body practices and why she encourages her patients to find support outside of her doctor’s office.

Dr. Alison Zimon is the Co-Founder and Co-Medical Director of CCRM Boston. She is Board Certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

In addition to her role at CCRM Boston, Dr. Zimon is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School and is a Staff Physician in OB/GYN at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Newton Wellesley Hospital.

She received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and her medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Zimon completed her residency for Obstetrics and Gynecology and fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Harvard Medical School/Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She has many years of experience in IVF treatment, IUI treatment, PCOS treatment, gestational surrogacy, among other areas.

Ayurveda is a practice, tradition, and discipline that is often shrouded in mystery. I think this episode will shed some light on what Ayurveda is and how it can be helpful for your fertility.

I talk with my friend Bethany who has a story to tell!

Bethany Gadbois has been on a self-healing journey since 2016. Enduring hardships and overcoming the impossible have brought her to where she is today. Being no stranger to loss since a young age, the fertility journey was loss in a different way. Following her heart by resigning corporate America in 2021, allowed more space in her life for the things that were meant to be to fall into place. She had her 2nd baby boy in 2022, opened a unique yoga studio in 2023, and just had her surprise 3rd baby boy. She owns Historic Yoga in Sturbridge Massachusetts.

This conversation is centered around Ayurveda and how it supported her in having her second and third children.

As someone who has supported thousands of people going through IVF, a common conversation that I have is about injections. From not knowing how to do them, if they were measuring the right dosage, or why progesterone in oil hurts so much.

She honed her skills at one of NYC’s top fertility clinics, where she helped thousands of patients. Leyla quickly realized her calling as “The Fertility Fairy Godmother,” and founded her own fertility consulting service, Fertility Together, to provide patients personalized, compassionate care throughout their IVF journey, supporting patients in all the critical moments outside of the clinic.

I love a good meditation - and this is one of my favorites - it's not necessarily a fertility meditation, but it is a good one for those who are trying to conceive.

During the holidays - its important that we take care of ourselves, give our bodies the opportunity to rest, and our minds a moment to pause.

This meditation leads through making a protective layer around yourself that you can use before heading in the parties and family gatherings.

Sometimes the way we walk into a situation will determine our experiences as positive or negative. IF you go in thinking it's going to be a horrible evening, chances are, it will be.

We hear a lot about nervous system regulation and managing stress when we are TTC and navigating our fertility journey. And although we seem to be very familiar with these concepts - understanding them and practicing them is definitely nuanced and not so straightforward. 

So today you are going to get an amazing explanation of the nervous system and what trauma ACTUALLY is and how it shows up in your body and why we should be aware that we all have trauma.

And the fertility journey can add to this. When we think about the fertility journey, so much happens that is considered - well  traumatic. Sometimes trauma with a capital T and sometimes years of relatively minor experiences that can accumulate trauma and sneak in without you even know it.

Today my guest is the most fabulous Jessica Carlin. She is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner ™, movement educator and Registered Massage Therapist. With over 20 years of experience, her practice is coherence based and client centered, combining evidence with intuition.

Jessica works with layers of embodied anatomy, discovering the stuck patterns in tissues and systems of the body and supporting the renegotiation of these patterns to help find physiological coherence, health and nervous system resilience.

During the fertility journey there are a lot things that happen that would definitely fall into the shitty category. And often we are left with our own devices to figure out how to deal with them, move through them, and heal.

This episode I resurrect an old blog post that I originally wrote about fertility and overcoming some of the challenges we meet with yoga, and then when I published it, it was right after Roe V Wade was overturned. And now after an election that puts the reproductive and rights and freedom in jeopardy for so many people, I thought it about time I spoke about this.

From the yogic lens we ask these questions:

1. What am I consuming?

2. Am I using discernment?

3. Which direction is my energy flowing?

4. Am I in the flow of nature?

I also dive a little bit into the physical body how we can use movement to help process mental and emotional energy.
