People today struggle between two remarkably strong forces ��

The follower of Jesus is expected to walk in community. From the Triune God through to his created humans, communal unity is the norm. It is not good for man to be alone. Examining what biblical community is and is not, we can prepare ourselves to act. Building on the unity that is ours by God’s fiat, we can establish community that blesses us, honors God, and attracts the dark and lonely world.

To rise up and walk involves a fascinating twist �

The believer in Jesus who sits around doing nothing with her new life is akin to a healed person who continues to lie in the ICU. The idea is wasteful and foolish. Instead, we are to rise up and follow Jesus. Scripturally, walk (peripateo) is a euphemism for all of life. We are meant to walk with God in everything. Those who do so are blessed with adventure and satisfaction. Practically, we walk like Jesus by living in scripture, submitting to the God’s revealed will, doing all with excellence, and showing true humility.

The final two petitions are discussed, leading the Christ-follower to confession and forgiveness of others � even without benefit of a confession. Further, our prayers are to be full of pleas for protection from evils both external and internal.
