After suffering the sudden and unexpected loss of her husband in 2009, Denise Dielwart found herself lost in a sea of emotions. Utterly alone in her grief, she struggled to navigate the pain and heartache without guidance. But through counseling and deep personal reflection, Denise discovered the importance of facing her grief head-on rather than avoiding it.
"I went for counseling, but the therapist didn't help me in the long run," Denise recalled. "There came a time when I had to ask myself, where am I here? I'm not feeling any better." This realization sparked Denise's journey of inner healing and transformation.
Rather than getting stuck in sadness, Denise learned to embrace her emotions. "When we don't feel, we don't know what we can let go of," she emphasized. Denise found solace in allowing herself to truly feel her grief through tears and even primal screams of anguish when alone. "It was after that when I came out. I actually scared myself," she shared. "I let out a guttural scream from the pit of my stomach."
Denise's cathartic release of pent-up emotions showed her the importance of acknowledging pain rather than suppressing it. This new perspective helped Denise move past the misconception that grief must be deeply painful. "Grief is love," she asserted. "We have to feel it. We have to let it go."
Denise now helps others facing loss through her Flow Grief Academy. When asked what advice she has for the grieving, Denise responded: "Where is the gift in grief? Where's the gift in the loss?" She encourages focusing on life rather than clinging to sadness: "The grief is just a moment in time that loss is just a moment in time. And we pass through that now how we pass through that is our choice."
Through embracing emotions, changing perspectives on grief, and finding purpose in pain, Denise Dielwart discovered light after her darkest days of loss. Her story inspires us to see the gifts that can emerge from facing life's most challenging of storms.
