I decided to write about a single foster mom for Mother’s Day and I was told there aren't many but one stood out.

Freida Adams-Hughes is 66 and in the last nine years has fostered 27 children.

“All nationalities,” said Freida. “And I loved ‘em all.”

I met her at her home on Providence’s south side and asked how she had time.

“Because I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I just go to church and go shopping,” she said.

She meant for her kids and she has a theory on that.

“You dress children well,” Freida said, “and they act the way they dress.”

She said her son Yilani, 15, whom she adopted four years ago after fostering him is an example.

“We go to church every Sunday and Wednesday,” she explained, “and he has the same colors I have. When we walk in, everybody knows Miss Frieda’s there and we’re dressed with respect.”

When he saw the venerable quiz show's College Championship last year, he had a feeling he could do pretty well.

The 19-year-old Brown University freshman from Gainesville, Ga., turned out to be right. When this year's "Jeopardy" College Championship aired on April 21, Gaur walked away with the $100,000 grand prize.
