Host Dayvon Love is joined by Bobby Tunmise Holmes: licensed clinical social worker, social entrepreneur, educator, and author and Tiera Hawkes, Assistant Public Defender in Baltimore County’s Juvenile Division, to discuss Maryland’s practice of automatically charging youth as adults. Together, they explore the harms of auto-charging, discuss the solution of ending this harmful practice, and examine what it will take to move this issue from community concern to statehouse action.

The 2025 Maryland General Assembly session ended on April 7. In this episode, Dayvon Love, Director of Public Policy at LBS, recaps this year’s legislative session and our efforts in Annapolis.

UPDATE: A very watered down version of HB 1222 was the last bill to be passed right before midnight on April 7th. It includes language to help “sensitive locations” like churches and schools decide how to respond if immigration agents show up, but does not include language from the original house bill that would have ended 287(g) agreements in Maryland which deputizes local police to act as ICE agents.
