  • Emerging Market Shifts Transforming Croatia's Light Vehicle Leasing Market

Topic Discussed : Light Vehicle Leasing Market in Croatia, Forecast to 2022

    Speaker: Gopi Sukumar

    Key Takeaways:

The Croatian fleet & leasing market is currently facing headwinds. Only a handful of leasing companies managed to survive years of economic downturn. As the market recovers, they must focus on customer service and explore opportunities in niche services to gain better financial position.New opportunities have arisen as a result of Croatia becoming a member country of the EU in 2013.There are over 152,000 SMEs that accounted for 99.7% of the companies in Croatia. As young companies increasingly prefer to channel their funds towards their core business activities and lease their fleet, SME segment offers huge potential in the long term

  • New Revenue Streams Redefining the Global Medium-Heavy Commercial Vehicle Market

Topic Discussed : Global Medium-Heavy Commercial Vehicle Market Outlook, 2019

    Speaker: Silpa Paul

    Key Takeaways:

    1. This research provides an outlook of the global medium-heavy truck market for the year 2019. The study also provides a review of the year 2018 which just passed by. The study examines the truck sales growth in 2018 and 2019 across regions and also provides projections for 2019.
    2. Some of the key technologies examined in the study are electric powertrain, Natural gas powertrain, autonomous driving, connected devices and digital services as these technologies received great interest (and investor dollars) in 2018.
    3. An example of the type of insights offered by the study is as follows- although battery electric powertrains receive great attention in trade shows and new channels, natural gas (NG) is a quietly growing alternative powertrain option especially in Europe and China where there is great regulatory pressure to cut emissions. Even in North America, roll out of California air resource board's (CARB) ultra-low NOx regulations will propel NG adoption in MD-HD trucks since current diesel engines cannot meet the proposed NOx limits.
    4. It covers sales forecasts for 2019 and trends into 2025 across- North America, South America, Europe, China, India, Russia, Next 11 and rest-of-the-world

    1. Grab is the leading eHailing company in Southeast Asia (SEA). The company has nearly 1 million driver partners located across the region.
    2. eHailing is anticipated to remain the core business for Grab in the long term. However, the company will keep expanding services to achieve its aim of being a ‘SuperApp’ in SEA.
    3. The company offers a technology platform that connects customers with various service providers. Its services include bike and car taxi eHailing, private car eHailing, carsharing, ridesharing, car rental, shuttle services, bicycle sharing, food delivery, parcel delivery service, and digital payment services.
    4. The company accounts 3.5 million daily transactions through GrabPay across SEA
    5. Grab presently has the largest driver partner base across SEA when compared to other eHailing companies. Daily rides for the company grew by 14.7x between 2014 and 2018.
    6. It has 6 Innovation centers established across Asia and the United States
    7. Grab has been making continued efforts at deepening its roots in SEA through strategic expansion, service introductions, acquisitions, and partnerships. It is expected to launch online healthcare services soon.
    8. Grab has expanded its presence to 225 cities across SEA in a time frame of just four years. Given its continued expansion efforts, this number is anticipated to increase significantly over the next few years
    9. Grab’s mobile wallet is now well known across all active markets in SEA which includes Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Myanmar and Cambodia
    10. Grab, among SEA’s biggest unicorns, was engaged in an intense competition with Uber, the global eHailing leader (before acquisition by Grab). The company received $2 billion in funds as of September 2018.
    11. Uber’s exit from the region (acquisition of business by Grab) has left Grab as the only major competitor to Go-Jek in SEA. Go-Jek has a vast additional service offering when compared to Grab.
    12. Indonesia is of particular importance to Grab in terms of its revenue generation potential, primarily due to its vast population and issues with the public transportation system, which make eHailing a convenient option

  • Growth Dynamics in the The Philippines EV Market

Topic Discussed : The Philippines EV Market, Forecast to 2022

    Speakers : Paulo Mutuc

    Key Takeaways:

Approximately 15,000 EVs—mostly e-bikes—are in use in The Philippines as of 2017. There is no overall policy framework yet for promoting and regulating EVs, although basic safety standards have been adopted and some incentives for EVs are in place (e.g. excise tax exemption). Most of the local EV industry is made of e-bike importers and e-tricycle assemblers. Charging infrastructure is concentrated in Metro Manila, where 12 of the 20 charging stations are located. By 2022, about 38,000 EVs will be in use in The Philippines. Growth will be driven by the continued need for jeepneys and tricycles in public transport; EV adoption in pilot routes under the PUV Modernization Program; as well as the resolution of EV registration issues and the introduction of some incentives for domestic assembly of electric jeepneys and tricycles

  • Tech Innovations in the Global Powertain Ecosystem

Topic Discussed : Global Powertrain Outlook, 2019

Speakers : Arvind Noel Xavier Leo

    Key Takeaways:

    • Diesel Engine Share Fell by 8% in Europe

The shares of diesel engines stood at 36.4% in Europe - down from 44.3% in 2017 - impacted by anti-diesel sentiment, a faster drift towards e-mobility, and the expansion of gasoline hybrid powertrains. As WLTP testing and urban restriction coming in for diesel engines it is expected that the diesel share in Europe will decline to 30-32% in 2019, whereas SCR and heated catalysts will be implemented on diesel engines to comply with regulations.

    • Upcoming WLTP Regulations, SCR and GPF

Final package of WLTP was finalized and has failed to be implemented from September 2018, but OEMs have begun dual testing, whereas ICE engines will require SCR/GPF to comply. OEMs will adopt standardized technical services to test and issue test results that will be monitored by regulatory authorities. This will result in reduced emissions for newly launched vehicles and also will create awareness among consumers.

    • VW’s E-Mobility U-Turn

In a shift from diesel, VW will be among the first OEMs to introduce a mainstream EV, with a range of up to 373 miles followed by Daimler, BMW and Renault Nissan.

    • EVs Booming in Europe and China, FHEVs in Japan

Of the 325,925 BEVs and PHEVs were sold in Europe—second only to China (980,000 units).

    • Unconventional Engines, Advanced Powertrain Technologies

Automakers are meeting with success on advanced powertrain technologies such as variable compression ratio, GDi Engines, heated catalytic converter, Outlook-Gasoline Spark Controlled Compression Ignition and integrated SCR system.
