That’s what Freud said: Our spiritual longings are simply frustrated sexual desires. The opposite is actually the reality: Our sexual desires, all our desires, are frustrated spiritual longings. Then, if you’re anything like Perry and Shawna what you think is your deepest longing is never your deepest longing.
Next, can you look yourself in the mirror, face the good, the bad, and the ugly. Face your worst failures, the skeletons in your closet. And then say, “Abba I believe you love me?” Because that’s what the gospel offers us. Then, God can do more in a moment of surrender than you could accomplish in a lifetime of striving.
Last, we see our flaws and sins and failures and think “that’s how my world must see me.” But because the light of Jesus is in us, our world sees him way more than they see how flawed we are. An assist from worship leader Jon Reddick.
Perry’s content is based on John Eldredge’s Knowing the Heart of God. Jon Reddick’s audio is from The Walk podcast from Worship Leader Magazine.
