It was at the Athenaeum that Poe once courted poet Sarah Helen Whitman and it was at this same building that Whitman once tried to summon his spirit. Could the master of horror still be haunting Providence? Had events gone differently would it had been Providence and not Baltimore that claimed Poe as their own?
