Roger and Erica join Jay to commiserate about the excruciating experience of watching Louis Theroux’s new documentary ‘Inside the Manosphere’. Is the Red Pill more of a reactionary social movement or a Patreon-based pyramid scheme? Is the Manosphere the new face of neo-Nazi propaganda or The Secret for Zoomer men? Can you escape the Matrix by becoming a…
In the midst of historic cuts to public services in Quebec, workers are fighting back. Jay sits down with Kiersten and Adam from Alliance Ouvrière (Workers Alliance; the organization that successfully unionized the Amazon warehouse outside Montreal) to talk about their Nos jobs, nos services campaign, which seeks to react to austerity by radicalizing workers, mobilizing fighting unions, and revitalizing the political strike as a weapon of the working class.

A classic cancel culture episode. Clementine and Jay are joined by conflict mediator and zinester Juno Aventurine to talk about the relationship between trauma and cancel culture, the shadowiest of shadow parts, and the moral ambiguity of the human animal. We also talk about the stubborn spectre of identitarianism and the trials and tribulations of exit…
The governing party in Quebec, the CAQ, continues its death spasms with yet another project no one asked for and everybody hates: a new constitution for Quebec, decided on with no mandate and written without any popular consultation. In Episode 91 Jay sits down with Christopher Curtis, founder of independent journalism outlet The Rover, to unravel the insane tangle of arrogance, corruption and stupidity that is the Quebec political class. Plus: Chris reveals the secret behind Montreal’s comically (some might say criminally) bad roads.

In the dying days of the Russian Empire, tens of thousands of working-class Yiddish-speaking Jews, radicalized by the triple oppression of capitalism, Tsarism and antisemitism, formed an anti-Zionist socialist party called the Jewish Labour Bund. Hugely influential on the worldwide socialist movement and at its height the largest socialist organization in Russia, the Bund remains for many anti-Zionist Jews (and other socialists) an inspiring example of bravery and committed internationalism in the face of impossible odds. In Episode 90, author and artist Molly Crabapple joins Jay to talk about her new book on the Bund, Here Where We Live is Our Country. In the process of researching this fantastic book, Molly taught herself Yiddish and pored through original sources originally belonging to her great-grandfather, himself a Bundist in his youth. We also discuss the state of antisemitism, real and imagined, in the wake of the Gaza genocide.

In Episode 89, Erica, Roger and Jay get together to talk about ICE as the MAGA paramilitary, the ‘don’t tread on me’ to ‘please tread on me’ pipeline, the ideological emptiness and racially diverse character of contemporary American fascism, liberal myths about reality, and what is — and is not — a general strike.

In Episode 88 we’re joined by Eric Blanc, author of We Are the Union: How Worker-to-Worker Organizing is Revitalizing Labor and Winning Big. We talk about the importance of unions in confronting the many problems of this dystopian timeline and how the model of worker-to-worker unionism is necessary to scale up unionization and create an effective labour movement. We also discuss the recent uptick in labour organizing in North America, including high-profile union drives at Starbucks and Amazon, and what workers are doing to win these struggles. We finish off with a little discussion of Young Cardamom, AKA Zohran Mamdani, mayor-elect of New York City.
