Most of us have given something we did not really want to give. We know the difference from the inside. Paul names it directly and points toward something better than reluctant obligation.

There are seasons when the reserves quietly run out. Not dramatically. Just gradually. Isaiah's question to a depleted people is one worth bringing into this morning.

Waiting is one of the hardest things faith asks of us, not because nothing is happening, but because we cannot see what is happening. Psalm 130:5 does not resolve the waiting. It teaches us how to do it.

This is one of the most quoted and least understood promises in the Psalms. It is often read as a formula, delight in God and your wishes will be granted. But the promise works very differently from that.

A conqueror is someone who has come through the fight and won. Paul describes something even more extraordinary than that and the context he places it in makes it all the more remarkable. The list of difficulties he has just described is not an exception to the title. It is the setting for it.

Our prayers are often smaller than they need to be not because we lack faith, but because we lack imagination. Ephesians 3:20 gently demolishes the ceiling. The God we are praying to is able to go beyond what we ask and beyond what we even dare to think.

There is love that costs very little. And then there is the love Jesus describes here. No one has greater love than this. The measure is not the intensity of the feeling it is the cost of the action.

Some seasons feel flat and static not dramatically difficult, just nothing moving. God's question through Isaiah is aimed at exactly that feeling. Can you not perceive it? Not after it is finished. Now. While it is still forming.

The mind does not stay still. Left to itself it will find something to dwell on. Paul's instruction in Philippians 4:8 is one of the most practical in the New Testament and the list he gives is more generous than we usually allow.

There is an ingrained human instinct to want to contribute to our own rescue. To make the salvation feel at least partly earned. Titus 3:5 is one of the clearest sentences in the New Testament about how salvation actually works and it rules our contribution out completely.
