so there's only really one way to get rich and that is to completely let go of emotion or emotional attachment and philanthropy to understand that money and the making of money is actually going to be a dirty process and it's quite difficult for a lot of people to get their head around that idea and i'm not talking here about um you know criminal activities and um or doing anything illegal or corrupt i'm just talking about the normal run-of-the-mill methods that people society individuals groups anybody has to employ to make money making money is very rarely um a kindly process you can certainly make a bit of money out of apparently being a a conscientious um uh producer but basically most of this stuff is gimmicky you know the green um the attitudes are now changing we're becoming greener and greener manufacturers are sort of um you know the bandwagon for green products etc is is it's almost overloaded now but a lot of it's just gimmick and hype basically if you're making money someone else is not making money someone else is doing without so that you can do with and somebody else is being used now there's nothing wrong with that and this is the other thing you're going to have to get your head around there is nothing wrong at all with making money when you've made it you can be more philanthropic you can be kinder when you've got so much money that you can risk um being more emotional about the things that you do you know when you're bill gates then you can become a philanthropic um and you know you start giving to charity in fact one of the ways you know a rich person is because they give a lot of their stuff away a lot of their money away because as soon as you get to a certain level of wealth you have to start giving some of it away you have to be seen um openly publicly to be giving it away you'll start getting invited to charity balls that's the first thing you have been to so many charity balls and i'm there because they assume that i've got enough money to buy the ticket and i've got enough money to buy the raffle tickets when i get there and these raffle tickets you know they can give thousands absolutely thousands um and you you're giving to um large organized charitable events and everybody can see that you're there you've got the best uh dress on the most expensive designer clubber and handbags everybody can see that you are a rich person then you can start giving it away but when you're you know starting up when you're trying to um make two dollars um there's no room for you to be emotional and kind so you have to really think like a wealthy person as if you're already wealthy so you have to be um i i wouldn't use the word greedy for yourself because you know a successful business person isn't greedy for themselves they're greedy for their idea and their concept and and this is the difference they're um almost animal about their desire to succeed for their um uh project to make it now that you know that might well be um it might come from a agreed to uh be flash and to have cars and big houses and all these things it's actually much more likely to come from um a desire to be safe and lots of very wealthy people that i've interviewed for my book have actually said that to me that you know they had a struggle when they were growing up a lot of self-made millionaires certainly came from a background where there was so much insecurity that the driving force for them has been security and money makes us secure money makes us safe money puts a roof over our head for as long as possible not a roof over our head for a week or a day or a month we don't you know when we're rich we don't you know living hand to mouth month to month or week to week is is not enough rich people need something much more sustainable than that successful rich people of course i've also met...
