Advent is the first season of the Christian year. Advent is a season of preparation and anticipation to once again experience the birth of Christ. As a church we have the opportunity to adorn our sanctuary and facility with the familiar symbols of the Christian faith, all pointing towards the birth of Christ.

In the sermon series, "Cast of Characters," we'll encounter one of the many Biblical characters whose life points toward the power of Christ's birth. On the four Sundays of Advent, different characters will be portrayed by a member of our drama team as part of the message.

December 18 sermon based on Isaiah chapters 9, 40 & 61

Matthew 1:18-25

By all practical purposes, the marriage of Mary and Joseph was doomed from the start.

Once they realized that their marriage was about something much greater, they by the grace of God made it work.

What if we understood our marriages, our families, even our lives were about something much greater? Might we make a greater effort to make them last or more purposeful?

The birth story has meant something different for each generation and each culture. The birth of Christ in our day and our culture means something different for those who live in poverty both here and abroad. By attempting to wear the lens of the poor we might glean a whole new experience, experience a different call from the manger, and even experience greater meaning in the nativity.

Today, we are challenged to renew our commitment to the future by stepping out in faith and living the Christian life as kingdom people.
