Feeding tubes are an underutilized tool in small animal practice. In this podcast, we will discuss the many uses of feeding tubes, including providing life-saving nutrition, medication administration, meeting daily water requirements, and providing palliative care. We will discuss what kind of diets can be used to make a feeding tube slurry, and how to formulate a diet plan. Finally, we will discuss the do’s and don’ts of communicating with clients about placing and maintaining a feeding tube to maximize owner compliance and success.
