These days, everyone is feeling the stress of their jobs and of the industry. With so many people just dreaming of starting over, I always hear, I am going to just quit and go work in the Cannabis industry. It is the modern equivalent of saying I am going to run off and join the circus.
But the reality is more challenging. It is a highly regulated and complex industry, it is illegal on the federal level so you are at the mercy of state regulations and an ever changing political environment. Then you have to be able to produce and sell a fairly technical and complex product that requires a high level of service to the customer. Making money in the business is not as straight forward as you might think.
One thing we have seen is that the Cannabis industry has done very well during the pandemic. It was considered an essential business in most parts and people have been taking advantage of that while locked down.
There have also been a lot of positive signs about the benefits of the cannabis industry certainly in pain treatment, but also in the reduction of opioid use and related deaths. States have benefitted from the additional tax revenue. In my town here in Evanston Illinois, the city has earmarked taxes from cannabis sales to be put toward reparations.
So, what does it take to be successful in the business? Today I have with me cannabiz entrepreneur and founder of Dispensary 33 here in Chicago, Zachary Zises. Dispensary 33 was one of the first and most successful dispensaries in Chicago. They have grown with the rise of medical cannabis to adult use recreational sales. They have built a large and loyal customer base for both medical and recreational sales with their artisanal consultative, high touch approach to business. Now they are looking to expand their footprint and to get into the grow side of the business.
I’m so excited to learn more about the industry, and what it take to succeed.
Welcome Zachary.

In 2008, Veritas employees Jaspreet Singh and Milind Borate got together to create the data protection company Druva. Fun Fact: In Sanskrit, "Druva" translates to "North Star".
For years they built the business around endpoint data protection, but the product evolved over into a more enterprise focused cloud data management company. Last year they completed a series E for $130M with a valuation north of a billion dollars.
Today we have Druva’s surprisingly technical CFO, Mahesh Patel, with us to discuss the importance of SaaS-based data protection, where the market is headed and what’s happening with Druva.
Welcome Mahesh

So, I have a question for you.
There is a study from 1967 that indicated that 93% of communication is non-verbal. Now there are some caveats to that study, but If up to 93% of Communication is non-verbal, why are you still having low quality voice calls with your customers?
This is one of the reasons that email and text have been such challenging communications mediums. Email is great for memorializing a conversation, but not a great way to have one.

Today we are going to talk about an important topic that doesn’t always get enough attention in IT and that is the AIOPs space. In my previous life on the business side, I know how valuable tools like this can be and leadership doesn’t always sufficiently understand the value they can provide to the business.
There is an interesting group of very successful entrepreneurs who spin out of Cisco, create some compelling tech which is then acquired by Cisco and integrated into their product portfolio. We are lucky enough to have one of those serial entrepreneurs with us today.
Raju Datla is the founder of multiple silicon valley startups. Raju’s latest endeavor is the AIOPS company CloudFabrix, where he is co-founder and CEO. Prior to CloudFabrix, Raju was Vice President of Cisco’s Datacenter Group, he led the $3B Cisco UCS software division and was the CEO and co-founder of Cloud computing startup Cloupia, and Jahi Networks. Both of which were acquired by Cisco. Raju is here to fill us in on the state of the industry for AIOPS and monitoring and analytics, and he is going to tell us how CloudFabrix is trying to change the game.
Welcome Raju

Today we are going to talk storage with Molly Presley from Qumulo.
In 2012, Isilon veterans, Neal Fachan, Peter Godman, and Aaron Passey set out to create a new vision for storage. After extensive market research and development, they released the file-based storage platform Qumulo in 2014. Most recently, they finished a substantial funding round with a valuation over a billion dollars. They have built a software defined storage product that is built to run in the data center or in the cloud, focusing on performance and simplicity and looking to rewrite the storage playbook. And, I can tell you that they are popping up in deals all over the place. Today we have with us Molly Presley who runs global product marketing for Qumulo to tell us the story of Qumulo and where they are headed.
Welcome Molly

HotMic gives you the opportunity to choose your watch party with your favorite sports personality, celebrity or just host your own watching parties with your friends. It is like a tailgate party in your own home. Today we have HotMic Founder, CEO and startup veteran Sean Longworth with us to talk about what it is like to build a startup in the midst of a pandemic, and how to remain agile to adjust and pivot in a market turned upside down.

Hi Everybody welcome back to another FUTRtech video podcast, and as a side note, our podcasts are now available in audio podcast form on iTunes, Spotify and many of the other podcast outlets as well as at https://futr.buzzsprout.com.
I am really excited about today’s guest, as he has been a friend and advisor to Sandesh and I for a while now and I can’t tell you how much I genuinely value his guidance and wisdom.
Bipul Sinha is an entrepreneur, engineer and venture capitalist with more than 20 years of experience building billion-dollar companies - including his current company Rubrik where he is CEO. In addition, Bipul is the Board Chairman & Co-Founder of Confluera as well as a Venture Partner at Lightspeed.
Bipul always seems to be at the center of many important companies like Nutanix, Pernix Data and Hootsuite to name a few, but he is also a shrewd investor who clearly has that golden touch. More importantly, He seems to be connected to just about everyone. In fact he may just be Kevin Bacon in disguise (I have never seen the two of them together). Or to put it more succinctly for you graphing nerds, he has a high Eigenvector Centrality.
Welcome Bipul
