Jerry McLean is Babcock Canada’s Chief Executive Officer. He took up his role  on 22 November 2021. Jerry is responsible for pursuing defence and value-add service opportunities, as well as leading Babcock Canada’s existing Marine and Aviation business. He has extensive experience in the Canadian defence sector, most recently as Managing Director for Thales Canada, Defence and Security. Jerry is a retired Royal Canadian Navy Combat Systems Engineer with 28 years of experience, specializing in complex project management, in-service support, and international cooperation programs. He is a graduate of the Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean in 1985 and the Canadian Forces College in 1997.

Jennifer Jane Bennett, teacher, school administrator, women’s advocate, senior reserve naval officer became the first female rear-admiral in the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) and the first female to be appointed chief of reserves and cadets, the most senior reserve officer position in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

Bennett enrolled in 1975 in HMCS Star, the Naval Reserve Division in Hamilton. In 1991, Bennett was appointed executive officer (second-in-command) in HMCS Malahat, the Naval Reserve Division in Victoria. Four years later, she was promoted to commander and became the unit’s commanding officer on 1 January 1995, serving until 30 July 1998. Later in 1998, Bennett was appointed the logistics branch advisor for the Naval Reserve. In 1999, she was appointed commanding officer of the Naval Reserve basic recruit detachment in CFB Borden and attended the NATO Defence College in Rome.
Bennett was promoted to captain (navy) in January 2000 and appointed director reserves in the chief of reserves and cadets division at National Defence Headquarters, Ottawa. In 2003, she became the director of professional development and director of the Ottawa detachment of the Canadian Defence Academy. Bennett was promoted to commodore on 1 December 2007 and appointed commander Naval Reserve, a position she held until 15 January 2011.

On 15 April 2011, Bennett was promoted to rear-admiral, becoming the first woman to achieve that rank in the RCN. In May 2011, she was appointed chief of reserves and cadets (now known as chief of reserves and employer support), the first female to hold that position. This made her the most senior reserve officer in the CAF and advisor on Canada’s reserves and the two DND-sponsored youth programmes.
Between August 2015 and July 2018, Bennett was director of the general strategic response team on sexual misconduct in support of Operation Honour, the CAF’s programme to prevent and address sexual misconduct. She then became director general of litigation implementation and served in that position until December 2019. As such, she led the implementation of settlements for former CAF members who were affected by the LGBT purge while serving in the CAF, RCMP and federal civil service between 1955 and 1996.
Women’s Advocacy
Bennett also served as an advisor, champion and speaker on women in leadership and defence in Canada and internationally. In this role, she worked with members of NATO and the UN, as well as other nations, regarding the integration of women into the military and developing a more diverse and inclusive military culture. She was the first female Defence Champion for Women, representing women in the CAF, as well as DND civilian employees, between January 2013 and September 2018.
In 2018, Bennett led the NATO Gender Key Leader Seminar at the Nordic Center for Gender in Military Operations in Sweden; she was the first international officer in that role.

Retired naval captain George Forward took the helm as CEO of Newfoundland and Labrador Division Commissionaires in September 2019. He’s a highly accomplished military professional who brings over 30 years of leadership and executive experience, a career that took him around the world and back again. “After 30 years in uniform and with a young family, I was beginning to tire of the constant moves. Not having the flexibility inherent in a younger man, I was looking for more stability and finding an executive opportunity mere minutes from where my family wished to reside in Newfoundland was an opportunity not to be missed. Joining the Corps also provided the ‘soft landing’ I was hoping for after so much time in service to HM. I was able to relate to the quasi–military lines of operations and the preponderance of veterans currently employed in the Corps rather than take on a sudden shift from service to a strictly private sector role. I was alerted to the job opportunity by a colleague. I have known about the Commissionaires since joining the RCN. They are an integral part of every base, station and installation.”

When asked what he thought his vast experience would bring to his new role as CEO he said: “This is a tough one. You’re asking me to blow my own horn. Allow me to summarize by saying that, like every other commissioned officer in the Royal Canadian Navy, I have been spectacularly trained to the highest standards to deal with most situations in most environments. Ours is a navy that is second to none in the professional opportunities it provides and the eclectic and expert set of skills it provides its members. My accomplishments and experience are not unique, save that I was fortunate enough to be part of the finest fighting service in existence.”

Joining Commissionaires allowed George to return to Brigus, his hometown, after so many years away.

Stan is an honorary member of the Turks & Caicos Aids Awareness Foundation (TCAAF), and was honoured, along with Governor of the Turks & Caicos, for his continued generous support and contributions.

The Hartling Group provided financial support to the TCI Kidney Foundation, which helped them purchase equipment for a new dialysis clinic on Providenciales. The firm also donated a much-needed multi-passenger van to The Nissi House, a local orphanage, and is a key founding sponsor of the Provo Hockey League, now enjoyed by more than 100 children between the ages of six and 16.

In recognition of his efforts and support for the local community, the Turks & Caicos Chamber of Commerce nominated Stan for Business Person of the Year in 2004 and 2005, as well as the Life Time Achievement Award at the 2009 Star Awards.

Background
Stan graduated Honours Cum Laude from St. Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia (Canada) with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1986. He also earned his Chartered Accountant designation while articling with Deloitte & Touche, one of Canada's leading professional services firms.

In 1989, Stan became a Partner in The Barrian Group, a Nova Scotian property development company. In his roles as Partner and Director of Operations, he led the company through significant growth as it developed retail shopping malls, residential sub-divisions, large-scale storage facilities and multi-unit residential projects.

By 1995, The Barrian Group had liquidated most of its completed projects, which led Stan Hartling to explore development opportunities in international markets and led him to the Turks & Caicos Islands.

Steve Dinn grew up in St. John’s with a brief stint in Ontario after graduating from university. Steve participated in numerous sports and his parents were very supportive. His father said he was “broke one time in his life and would never let it happen again.” That made Steve more conservative than others and has shaped his decision making going forward. Danny was born in New Zealand but grew up in Australia and moved to Canada, first to Vancouver by way of Edmonton then Ontario but then settled in Newfoundland and Labrador. Beaches were not for him and maybe that was a hint he might end up in NL. Danny attributes his parent’s positive attitude with his solid foundation. Newfoundland was simply supposed to be a short vacation BUT in Danny’s words “I met the missus!” Married to a Newfoundlander Danny decided to build a business here in Newfoundland Tee Box Indoor Golf with five indoor golf simulators. This is an interesting story.

CHRIS CHAFE - Executive Chef

At 17, Chris Chafe was pursuing studies at Memorial University and working part-time at a local restaurant. As he watched, he learned. And a passion for great food was ignited, inspiring a change of career plans.

By 22, Chris had gone from dishwasher to Executive Chef, the youngest ever in St. John’s. Since then, he has been with the culinary teams at Atlantica, Evoo, and Magnum & Steins, to name a few.

Chef Chris is no stranger to the podium; he’s a two-time St. John's Gold Medal Plates silver medalist, a past “King of Cod” at Roots, Rants and Roars, a Top Chef competitor, a James Beard house presenter, and the 2015 Canadian Culinary Championships Silver Spoon winner.

His approach is simplistic, but not simple. “Keep it fresh. Make it from scratch. Get all the senses involved.”

Born and raised in St. John’s, Chef Chris lives in the city with his wife, Stephanie, and their two sons, Declan and Dominic. His collection of over 200 cookbooks is his favourite possession.
