Wayne is an experienced business leader with an enduring love of rural Newfoundland and Labrador and all the exciting opportunity contained therein. He completed a formal education in Commerce at Memorial University Business School. He has been heavily involved in municipal politics, owned his own restaurant and retail gasoline operation. He came out of MUN and started his own consulting company which eventually branched into retail. He has a passion for Social Enterprise and brings a different way of thinking to bear on all of his endeavours. Throughout his career as an entrepreneur, and working with large public corporations, he has shaped his leadership style as a critical and strategic thinker. Wayne says he is always looking forward to the next step and being a lifelong entrepreneur defines who he is!

Jacqueline is an alumna of MUN, holding a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance, a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a CPA designation. She has over 20 years experience in finance and business development with a diverse career spanning hospitality, property management, construction and technology. Jacqueline has extensive experience in establishing effective reporting and tracking systems that support the success of existing and accelerated growth business models. As CFO of SkyHawk Telematics, she managed the sale of the local NL tech firm to the largest telecom in Canada. She also served on the board of TaskForceNL and now serves on the board of techNL as Vice-Chair. She has recently joined PolyUnity as their COO and is excited about the transformation additive manufacturing can bring to our healthcare system. She is passionate about fostering an eco-system in NL that our kids will choose to stay and thrive in when they graduate. She is also a strong advocate for women in STEM fields and improving equitable opportunities for Indigenous peoples.

Dr. Chandra Kavanagh is the Director of Bounce Health Innovation. Bounce Health Innovation is a medical technology cluster and health innovation incubator. The vision of Bounce is to help Newfoundland and Labrador become the testbed for medical technology innovation in North America. Prior to this she served as the Ethics Officer for the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Research Ethics Authority. She also teaches biomedical ethics for the Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador School of Medicine, and the MUN philosophy department. Chandra received her PhD in 2019 from the philosophy department at McMaster University, where she studied biomedical ethics and feminist philosophy. Chandra’s presentations on political and ethical issues have received high acclaim across Canada, the United States, Europe and Australia and she has been widely published in both academic and popular media.

Areas of Specialization: Bioethics, Mental Health Ethics, Feminist Philosophy, Moral Philosophy.

Jennifer Bessell is the chief executive officer with the Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs. Jennifer is an accomplished senior leader in the non-profit sector with extensive experience in both professional associations and charitable organizations. She has held executive director roles in both professional legal education and with the Canadian Bar Association as well as executive positions with the Association for New Canadians locally and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada nationally. Jennifer has a demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams with a people first approach to leadership. She is an experienced executive leader who enjoys both program and finance management.  

Jennifer is passionate about lifelong learning and helping others achieve success in their professional endeavours. She considers coaching and mentoring a responsibility of leadership. As such, Jennifer is driven to help women and youth realize their potential and be successful in their journey as entrepreneurs.

Fun Fact:

Jennifer loves to study wine and one day plans to complete the training to become a sommelier. Her dream vacation is to do an extensive tour of wineries in France!

Born and raised in Saskatoon, SK, Dave studied philosophy and law at the University of Saskatchewan in the 1980s.  A series of happy accidents led him from law, to restaurant manager, to naval officer and finally to broadcasting. He was the morning host at C95 FM in Saskatoon from 1993 to 2011, boasting the largest listening audience in Saskatchewan. In a mid-life crisis, he moved to Ottawa in 2011 and opened The Flying Banzini (a restaurant in Wellington West). But, the siren song of academia and journalism increased and he set aside his budding career as a restaurateur to pursue a Master of Journalism degree at Carleton University. A superlative story teller, experienced multi-media communicator – print, radio, social media, digital, and television.

Kevin Aylward is an Indigenous senior executive with both Public and Private sector experience. Kevin is a former Provincial Cabinet Minister with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, having served ten years in Cabinet. Kevin served 20 years as MHA in the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador and served as Leader of Liberal Party of NL in 2011. 
He is Co-Founder of Beothuk Energy Offshore Wind group and Co Signatory to Beothuk Joint Venture with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. In addition to being president of Aylward and Associates Consulting Group and a director of TSX traded Ceylon Graphite Corporation, Kevin recently assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer of LNG Newfoundland and Labrador Limited. He is a busy man and we are very happy to have him on the podcast.

Richard is a realtor and broker with Hanlon Realty, and has enjoyed a career that spans over 25 years in the industry. He began working in the construction industry after completing an undergraduate degree in Commerce from Memorial University. His early career roles were based in the marketing field, and this experience allowed him to understand the expectations of all of the industry's participants, from home buyers and sellers to land developers and builders. He developed several specialized areas of expertise: new home construction, energy efficiency, and universal design. 

Richard has been an award winner throughout his career. These include the Multi Award Winner, Hanlon Summit Award, Hanlon Pinnacle Award, and the Hanlon Everest Award.
