What happens when you don’t have the funds to open a brick and mortar business? You aren’t out of the game just yet! You still have an opportunity to open your business by having a mobile office.

There are a few basic things you will need to figure out before you take your first client:

• Reliable transportation source 
• Business cards
• Know your pricing structure
• • consider the type of massage
  • consider your transportation radius
  • are there tolls or parking fees
• Is your equipment portable? 
• Can you accept cash or credit card - Square is a great option for CC processing
• Calculate your travel fee or time calculations to factor into your pricing
• You may want to accept a 50% deposit on the session at the time of booking
• Keep track of your mileage for tax purposes

Welcome! Today we’re talking about Who Do You Want To Be? What I mean by that question is, do you want to be an employee, an independent contractor, or an entrepreneur?

Let’s consider the following:

• Being an employee has some advantages, like setting your own schedule, receiving a steady paycheck, and having benefits. One specific disadvantage is that you can’t be creative in your massage therapy.
• Being an independent contractor has the advantages of flexibility and freedom, and possibly working at multiple venues. On the flip side, you incur more expenses and travel, and must provide supplies and your own liability insurance.
• Being an entrepreneur has the supreme advantage of being your own boss. If you hire employees, then you incur a lot of employer responsibility and have to work longer hours. You also have to consider your brick and mortar office location, adequate insurance, and scheduling issues.

Which road do you most want to travel? Your ideal might be one of the three roles or some combination of the three. Try them out and see which best fits you and your business goals.

• What keeps people from starting a business? Usually a myth of some kind; let’s debunk a few of them:

• • “I’ll get burnout.” The cure for burnout is to take care of yourself.
  • “I won’t make enough money.” Well, how much is ENOUGH?
  • “I don’t have enough time.” The key is consistency.
  • “There is too much competition.” Find a niche that is YOUR specialty.
• Consider the following about your mindset:
• • Set a goal, re-evaluate, and continue moving forward.
  • Positive thoughts create positive energy.
  • Don’t limit your beliefs!
  • Reach outside the box.
  • List three of your strengths.
  • List three things you would like to improve.
  • “Build your well BEFORE you get thirsty!”
  • Take a chance and embrace the fear of the unknown.
• Have you heard of the “Imposter Syndrome?” Some characteristics include asking the following questions:
• • Am I really qualified to do this?
  • Will anybody care about what I have to say and do?
  • What if what I do isn’t good enough?
• How do you handle fear?

During their training to become licensed massage therapists, Marthica McDermott and Cheryl Teets studied Aromatherapy as part of their educational requirements. Together, Marthica and Cheryl have years of combined training and practice in the everyday use of essential oils, their individual therapeutic properties, and have done numerous case studies.
