On this weekend where we honor those that have died in service to this country, we appreciate the rights they afford us, including the ability to chat about the games athlete play.  Once again, Larry (in the Downtown studio) and Eric (in the St. Cloud area) take advantage of that ability to go through the week in sports.  The Twins try to break out of their home funk by taking to the road.  The Stanley Cup Final will produce a Cinderella story.  What’s the impact of the Supreme Court’s sports betting decision?  Are the WNBA champion Lynx not getting due credit?  We react to the NFL’s decision regarding the National Anthem.  And Twins CF Byron Buxton tell us how he hopes to solve the problem of bullying in schools.

Segment 1: The Twins are back on the road after the middling homestand.  The guys recap the mixed results against the Mariners, Cardinals, Brewers, and Tigers.  How does this set the team up in the division?  And which league is the playing the better ball on the diamond?

Segment 6: Is James Harden the runaway NBA MVP?  Do we take LeBron James and his greatness for granted?  Does Donovan Mitchell have a shot to overtake Ben Simmons as the NBA Rookie of the Year?  And which athlete is the best to ever be born in Minnesota?  Our hosts have answers to these questions and more.

Segment 5: The Twins invited the St. Louis Cardinals in for a couple of games earlier this week.  A familiar voice joined the Cards as they traveled here.  Former Twins broadcaster John Rooney came back to discuss the gold old days in Minneapolis, the chances of today’s Twins to make a move, and where the Cardinals stand in 2018.

Segmnet 4: Winnipeg is continuing their fantastic run in the NHL’s conference finals.  There are quite a few Minnesota ties to the squad.  Tom Tuttle sticks around to chat about the last Canadian team left in this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs.  And how improbable is the run by the expansion Vegas Golden Knights?

Segment 3: Gopher Spring sports are making some waves.  That includes the nationally-ranked baseball team.  GDG’s Tom Tuttle joins the program to look into the team’s successful season as they try to earn an NCAA tournament berth.  Could they host a regional?

Segment 2: Why would the Cleveland Browns be the focus of HBO’s “Hard Knocks” this offseason?  The guys offer up their reasons.  Also this offseason, the Vikings will host the Jacksonville Jaguars for some practices.  And we reflect on the careers of NFL coaching stalwart Chuck Knox and Twins legend Frank Quilici.

The postseason play always runs deep approaching Memorial Day.  This year is no different, as teams, locally and nationally, strive for the glory that only culminates in a championship.  Eric and Larry champion those to-be champions each week, this time, doing it from the Downtown Minneapolis studio.  The guys check in on the NBA Playoffs and Draft Lottery.  They chat about the Vikings welcoming another winning team to prepare for 2018.  They invite Tom Tuttle on the program to tout Gopher baseball and the NHL’s Western Conference Finals.  And they stop to talk with former Twins broadcaster John Rooney, who now works with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Segment 5: We return to the diamond with a guest that knows his way around the basepaths.  USA Today writer Bob Nightengale joins the program to discuss some of the early season storylines, including a flurry of no-hit efforts, a record rate of strikeouts, the best teams in MLB, and the Twins’ chances in the AL Central.

Segment 4: How do you start a WNBA career?  If you play for last year’s Lynx, pretty fantastic.  We caught up with second-year guard Alexis Jones to chat about her role on the squad as they start to defend their title later this month.  After that, Becky Hammon will interview to become the first female head coach in NBA history.
