By not designating where the flipper buttons are it makes the play easier. Touch the right side and hit the right flipper.

You might not be excited about it, but I bet a photographer or a videographer are. For them 128 GB goes by really fast. I talk about availability and prices for this announced addition to the iPad family.

When iPad Games Shut Down

I have been playing We Rule since I got my first iPhone. I have built up my castle and it has entertained me for around 4 years. NgMoco – the game’s developer – announced that We Rule (along with some of their other titles) will be closing. They will be pulled from the App store on Feb 1, and the game will ultimately shut down on March 31st.

While I understand the reasoning, I am still sad for a game I put a lot of time into. I am happy where I ended up with We Rule and thank NgMoco for making a game.

It does come to a realization about server-side games. They will eventually shut down. It’s just a question of when.

Previous iPad365 Episode – Griffin Studio Connect

I have played Angry Birds in the past and thought – that’s nice now I need to do something productive. For some reason that changes when the words “Star” and “Wars” are put together. It’s kinda like chocolate and peanut butter.

I finally broke down and put the Angry Birds Star Wars HD – Rovio Entertainment Ltd game on my iPad. At first it was pretty easy – Luke bird with a lightsaber attacking sand people pigs.

Then it got interesting.

The Good – Angry Birds Star Wars

Turns out there is a challenge side to this game. Thinking outside the box. You really have a lot of fun with the Death Star where you have to shoot your birds into gravitational fields. As the fields cross your bird can move around another moon.

Players are also fun in the game. From the lightsaber bird to the Princess Leia tractor beam bird and the Jedi bird. You can really get caught up in the game.

The Bad – Angry Birds Star Wars

As any Angry Birds game goes you kinda have to suspend physics a bit. Just because one box busts up doesn’t mean the other boxes will come tumbling down. There are still some levels where I just don’t understand how that piece of concrete stays where it is.

Overall – Angry Birds Star Wars

Eventually I will get bored with the game. For now I am staying up until 2 am trying to get three stars on levels. At one point you will have to go back and 3-star levels to move forward. Otherwise you will have to pay the in-app fees.

If you like those friend word games then this new game by Chillingo will be right up your alley. It mixes the word games with horse racing!

Word Derby pits you against up to four people. Simply put – you are trying to get the best word scores to advance your horse to the finish line. You place a wager on your race and start putting together words. As the race progresses you get experience points to use bombs and have the game figure out a word for you to use.

The first one to the finish line wins.

There are several modes including “Pass the iPad” mode where you can play against someone in the same room.

A few months ago I talked about Positive Grid and the JamUp Pro. This is my accessory pick for today and for the musician. The plug-in uses the headphone jack so you don’t have to worry about the 30-pin or 9-pin connector conundrum.

Plug the guitar into the 1/4″ jack and headphones into the 1/8″ jack. Set up your pedals and amp then rock away.

The software works on all iOS devices and is only $19.99. Great for the practicing musician; but I do know a few that have been incorporating the iPad software into their performance rig…

If you are looking for an interesting musical challenge game that combines guitar hero with simon says; you have Rock Beat Lasers. Create some great electronic music simply by following patterns and tapping pads.

Not only can you follow along with the board but also record your own sounds. When done, post up on the charts. You might just have the #1 song in RBL.

Today’s accessory for the holidays is the ION iCade Arcade Cabinet for iPad. This is an enclosure to turn your iPad into an arcade game. The Bluetooth connected joystick ensures this device will work on whatever iPad you have. It also can work for other tablets (although the games that come with it are for iOS devices).

Did you Know: The iCade started as an April fools joke?

If you have friends that are into MAME, there is a big underground of using the iCade joysick for play. The iCade is around $90.

Today’s Friday game is Flick Golf – a fun and addictive golf game where you try to get the ball closest to the pin. You start on the first course and have a set amount of time to hit balls into the hole. 500 points if you get it in the inner circle, 400 points for the second ring, 300 and 200 points for the other rings. Get a hole-in-one and receive 1,000 points.

Use backspin, foreward spin and curving to get more points. Once you hit the target score you get more courses to play.

Flick Golf is free with an in-app purchase to unlock all courses. It is available for all iOS devices.

Applecare is nice to have but if you need to insure your devices a little more than what Apple can cover then check out Worth Avenue Group. I met them at CES 2011 when I got to smash some iPods.

The company insures all electronic devices for personal or business. You are protected by a wide variety of issues from cracked screens to full loss of the device.

Prices to insure devices are relatively low so it makes a great gift for the gadgeteer in the family.

To prepare for the Disney movie “Wreck it Ralph“, I take a look at the iPad app game that started it all. OK – not really started it all but it is the game behind the movie.

Fix-it Felix Jr. is the game around the movie. In the game you are Felix and you are trying to fix the windows that Ralph has smashed. Watch out for Ralph though, for he drops bricks while you are trying to fix things.

Watch out for passing ducks and collect pies as you go. If the shutters are open, you won’t be able to move to the adjacent window.  As the levels progress more obstacles present themselves.

Overall a fun game and a jump back to 8-bit gaming. Fix-it Felix is available for all iOS devices and also can be played on the PC.

It’s the sequel to Fieldrunners, aptly called Fieldrunners 2. This is a tower defense game where you set up gunners in a map area to take down enemy forces. As you progress, you get more guns and other weapons.

Watch out, though for the enemy gets stronger and smarter. This strategic puzzle defense game becomes hard really fast.

The game also has time trials and other added bonuses during battlefield play. After so many soldiers shot, you will receive achievement cards. In-app purchases of coins will get you more stuff faster.

Fieldrunners 2 also supports iCloud. Save a game, then port it over to another iOS device (like an iPhone or another iPad). This game has been heralded as one of the best iPhone tower defense games.

It is an addictive game as I have been stuck on a level for about 3 days and am still playing.

Fieldrunners 2 is by Subatomic Studios and is $2.99 in the Apple app store. The original Fieldrunners is also available for $2.99.

If you need a challenge game on the iPad then look no further. I look at a game that is not the prettiest looking game out there but it’s pretty addictive.

Puzzlejuice is Tetris, a word game, and a color block game all in one. Start by maneuvering the shapes to clear a row. The row will turn into a series of letters. As the next block falls you have to figure out 3 letter (or better) words to clear out the row.

The colors on the shapes also play a part. When you get 3 or more of the same color in a pattern, select and those will turn to letters. That way if you have a row of mumble-jumbo, you can add more letters to the mix.

The words can be mixed in any configuration as long as you can swipe across the iPad without picking up your finger. As you go you get extra challenges and cool helpful items like bombs to blow away blocks.

Start in easy mode. As you complete challenges the bricks will start to fall faster and the words will start to get harder.

If you are a fan of professional wrestling, you might want to have this app on your iPad. It’s WWE app for iPad (and all iOS devices). Catch up on your favorite RAW, Smack Down wrestlers as you check out recent news and events.

WWE app has more than just the current news. Check out the events area to find out when the WWE is in your area. Interact with others on Twitter – even separate by location. That way you can interact with fellow wrestling fans in your area.

The roster area comes with WWE wrestlers from past and present. Any wrestler that was in the WWF, WCW, ECW or other organizations that merged with the WWE can be found in this app. Find out details about them, watch some videos or view pictures of matches they had.

If you are a fan of the swipe game, Ninja Factor HD might be one to try out. Just like the popular fruit game, this one deals with numbers. When you start you are given a number to watch for. Swipe all the numbers for combos and more points. Don’t let the special number go off screen or else you lose a mark. Lose 3 marks and the game is over.

There are many different Easter eggs in the game. Swipe the timepiece and have the game slow down for more combo moves. Watch out for the bombs or your game will be over.

You can also play multi-player and there is a “crazy sevens” game to add to the excitement. Ninja Factor HD is brought to you by ChipotleLabs and is .99 cents. it works across iOS devices.
