Depression is a very popular topic in society, right next to anxiety. What do we do when we experience this and how can we feel better? First, we must understand what depression is and detach ourselves from over-identifying with our emotions. The Word guides our identity and He Himself is the source of joy and peace that can replace those negative thought patterns that drive depression. Listen for the full convo!!
Anxiety is a complex topic that is often generalized and misunderstood. This episode aims to provide a general understanding of anxiety, while focusing on how to practically approach it and change our thinking to be able to cope with these emotions in a healthy way. We also discuss the source of peace itself, and how we can go to God to be restored.
I recently went on a mission trip to Ecuador and in this episode I highlight what God taught me on this trip about hearing the Holy Spirit and loving others well through that. The supernatural can seem very daunting and confusing, but it is actually quite simple. Scripture indicates how God is not far from each of us, and a seeking heart. Is all you need. Why does this matter for mental health? Discerning the voice of God from other voices in your life will allow you to train your mind to combat maladaptive thought patterns and instead take on the mind of Christ. Love you all, thank you for listening!!
The things that we consume spiritually, have an impact on our cognitions and what comes out of our mouths. As followers of Christ, we are called to a process of sanctification that requires us to develop our skills in self-awareness and making the effort to consume things that are healthy for our mind and spirit.
Assessing for spiritual abuse is a complex but necessary aspect of counseling that is too often overlooked. In this episode we discuss a healthy approach to spirituality and take time to understand the effects of spiritual abuse and religious trauma.
Men’s mental health month is June, and I wanted to take the time to discuss the importance of cultivating spaces where men feel safe to be vulnerable. Masculinity is complex and not tied to an unrealistic, stoic standard of what it means to be a man. The Bible gives us examples of what it looks like to depend on God and know that it is okay to ask for help.
In this episode I share my understanding of addiction and substance use disorders. We discuss addiction as both a choice and disease, while looking at the power of hope to help individuals through recovery. The hope is to advocate for those in recovery and increase our understanding of how addiction works, so we all may have more grace for the silent battles we all fight.
In this episode we look at a specific category of mental disorders, “Feeding and Eating Disorders.” I share my own testimony of struggling with body image and eating, while sharing how we can grow in our understanding of these disorders from a spiritual perspective. Hope you feel encouraged to love more & be more aware of the silent battles people are walking through every day.
