  • Gary Talks Physical Media: Collateral's 20th Anniversary 4K
In today’s episode of Gary Talks Physical Media, Gary reaches back into the collection for a retro 4K review of Paramount’s 2024 20th Anniversary SteelBook Edition of Michael Mann’s Collateral, the acclaimed Los Angeles crime thriller starring Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx.
Released in 2004, Collateral follows Max, a mild-mannered Los Angeles cab driver whose ordinary night takes a terrifying turn when his passenger, Vincent, reveals himself to be a ruthless contract killer. Forced to drive Vincent from one target to the next, Max finds himself trapped in an increasingly dangerous game of survival. As the night unfolds, the two men clash over life, morality and the choices that brought them together, building toward a desperate final confrontation.
More than 20 years later, Gary revisits Collateral and Michael Mann’s distinctive vision of Los Angeles after dark, along with the acclaimed performances from Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx. Does the film remain one of the standout crime thrillers of the 2000s, and how does it hold up two decades later?
Gary also breaks down Paramount’s 20th Anniversary 4K SteelBook release, including the 4K transfer and picture quality, audio presentation, bonus features and special features, collectible SteelBook packaging and overall presentation.
Does Collateral still deliver after more than 20 years? Is this 4K UHD SteelBook the version collectors should own? And if you already have an earlier release, is it worth the upgrade?

  • Gary Talks Physical Media: Arrow Video's Beyond The Door Blu Ray
In today’s episode of Gary Talks Physical Media, Gary reaches back into the collection for a retro Blu-ray review of Arrow Video’s 2020 release of Beyond the Door, the notorious 1974 supernatural horror film directed by Ovidio G. Assonitis.
In the wake of the enormous success of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, theaters were flooded with movies exploring demonic possession, Satanic horror and the occult. Beyond the Door became one of the most infamous, borrowing enough from The Exorcist to spark legal action from Warner Bros., while still becoming a major theatrical success in its own right.
More than 50 years later, Gary revisits Beyond the Door to see whether this bizarre slice of 1970s Italian horror and exploitation cinema deserves to be remembered as more than an Exorcist imitator. Is it genuinely frightening? Completely bonkers? Maybe a little of both?
Gary also breaks down Arrow Video’s Blu-ray release, including the Blu-ray transfer and picture quality, audio presentation, extensive bonus features and special features, packaging and overall presentation.
Has Arrow Video given this cult horror oddity the release it deserves? And if you’re a fan of Italian horror, possession movies and cult cinema, is Beyond the Door worth adding to your physical media collection?
