The issue of slavery is important and challenging!

It would be so easy to read the New Testament anachronistically, through our modern lenses. It would be easy to take the instructions to slaves and masters in Colossians 3:22-4:1 out of context and thus miss how the gospel moves the ball forward.

Placing these instructions in their time and place, and understanding our time and place, may enable us to see their true spirit.

"Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged." (Colossians 3:20-21)
