Buckaroo Banzai, hidden in the trunk of the Red Rune Tesla launched toward the Mars Underground, slips into the driver’s seat after sealing the passenger capsule under the retractable car roof. The onboard AI in the Tesla is radio silent while escaping the gravitas dark energy pull of Planet Earth. The machine mind embedded in the dashboard of the car searches All Systems Underground on Mars for a preset signal code known only to two people in the Saturnine Solar System. Banzai fumbles with the keys in the ignition, when the Signal Code arrives from Planet 10, light years from the Mars Underground... “How long ago must this have been planned?” Banzai tried to calculate the time taken between the signal sent and the signal’s interception just short of Earth’s orbit as he fastens his seatbelt. The next sound he hears is the child locks click inside the car doors. Buckaroo expected audio waves across space would activate his “Oscillation OverThruster” hidden under the hood of the car, turning the car toward the Red Planet, and an unexpected rendezvous on the dark side of Mars... The flashing strobotic lights emanating from under the car’s engine block indicated the OverThruster had been switched on remotely, from deep beneath the extinct volcano Olympus Mons, in the green crystal caverns of the Mars Underground. Somebody was monitoring the car’s progress and guiding it into dark harbour unbeknownst to any man, woman or child of Earth... Every click in the plan ticked off like a Maas Neotek Steam Driven Clockwork, until the dark foreshadowing drew back the bucket seats and activated all four quad speakers in the rear dashboard of the vehicle. “Great Caesar’s Ghost!” Buckaroo Banzai was surprised to find the audio carrier wave drawing him into the unfamiliar port of call in the Mars Underground was riding on a fundamentally less complex but more familiar wave now, it seems, playing loudly over the quadratic car stereo system. “WHOEVER said there is no sound in outer space was as wrong as rain on the Sphinx...” And Buckaroo turned upward his wide coat collar around his neck, pushing back against his reclining seat, studying the constellations just beyond the horizons of Mars. Banzai knew someone, somewhere was trying to make this journey more bearable by encoding the cryptographic Machine language instructions for the “Oscillation OverThruster” but he didn’t think the sound in such a small car could be so loud...
