Jonah 1:1-5
Matthew 5:43-48
In this first message from Jonah’s first chapter, we come across one of the hallmarks of our Christian faith...namely, we love our enemies. Jonah’s reticence to go to Nineveh was because the Ninevites were sworn enemies of Israel and were furthermore horrible and heinous and violent people. But God takes horrible and heinous and violent people and redeems them and makes them His own. He’s not looking for perfect people to be in His kingdom because there are none...He’s instead looking for, searching out, seeking diligently for sinners who need His grace. And He calls all of us, just like Jonah, to be ambassadors of His grace every day.God is all about ridiculous requests, especially when salvation, love and forgiveness is on the line.

James 1:12-15
John 8:42-44
This is a tough one for most people. They look around the world and see the suffering and pain. They recognize the evil that's present in everyone's heart...and presume, "If God created everything, then God created evil too." Today we will remember that evil is in the world because this world is infected with the disease of sin. But we will also remember that God never wanted it that way. God created the world to live and to live forever in the perfection and sinlessness of the Garden of Eden. But satan introduced the idea...and we, specifically Adam and Eve, took matters into our own hands. Thankfully, God also took matters into His own hands...the hands of Jesus nailed to the cross.
