How amazing is our God? How amazing is it that He not only rescued Jonah but brought the Ninevites to repentance through the prophet as well. Yes, God brought the Ninevites to repentance. The Bible is clear, even repentance is God’s work in and through us. And each time we repent, we’re reminded that it’s a ridiculous repentance because we love our sin...but each time we repent we’re also reminded that it’s ridiculous because God loves us so much, He gives us both repentance and grace when neither one is deserved!

As we turn the page to the second chapter of Jonah we realize that the Lord was all about saving the Ninevites, but He was also about saving Jonah too. Did Jonah deserve to be saved? Nope. Did Jonah deserve to die in that body of water? Yep. But God had mercy on Jonah and sent a fish...a fish that would swallow him and then three days later, spit him up on the beach. Hmmmm...three days later salvation was brought to sinners? Sound familiar? It should! God is all about ridiculous rescues and has done so for the world through His Son’s death and resurrection on the third day!
