Sometimes our lives consume us. We are a never-ending, in-motion, non-stop, gotta have more society. Our wealth and our drive for more wealth isn’t in an of itself a bad thing. The problem is we are quite good at taking a good gift from God and turning it into something that gets between us and our relationship with Jesus. As we encounter Jesus however, we are reminded of what’s important. Jesus says in John chapter six “Don’t work for food that perishes but food that endures to eternal life which the Son of Man will give you” (verse twenty-seven). He knows you have to work but He calls us today to have our priorities right. He is the bread of life and calls us to make sure that in the midst of our striving to put food on the table, that we don’t forget that truth about Him. We should ask the question today “Can I genuinely say that Jesus is all that I need in life?” Today we are thankful to Jesus that He comes to us in life but more importantly, that He is our life!
We live in a world that believes that they can do whatever they want to regardless of what the Word of God says. Sadly…Christians are at that spot too. But that’s not true. We are called submit our lives, our will, our hearts to Christ’s word and the life He wants for us to live. Having said that, our amazing God nonetheless meets us right where we’re at. He doesn’t reject us simply because we’re living in a way that is contrary to His Word. He intentionally came to the woman at the well…Jesus sought her out…and she was living in sin. Jesus came to her, right where she was. But He also refused to leave her that way. And he refuses to leave you that way too. Today we remember that we encounter Jesus in sin but when we encounter Jesus in sin we are empowered to repent and enabled to be forgiven by Him. Thank you Jesus, today we remember that You come to us in our sin!

Ever questioned your Christian faith? Ever had a hard time understanding or even believing the truth about Christianity? The story of Nicodemus reminds us that the Lord Jesus is indeed patient with us and meets us in our doubts and struggles about the faith. Nicodemus was a learned man! Nicodemus was a teacher of the faith of the Old Testament! Though that was true about him, Nicodemus didn’t grasp or understand what Jesus meant when He said “You must be born again.” And how does Jesus respond? Jesus patiently explains the truth of the Gospel and gives him not one, not two, but three different ways of understanding what faith in Jesus is all about! Jesus does the same for us as we encounter Him even in our doubt!

Our first story in John is not only “the first sign” or “miracle” of Jesus, but it reminds us of yet another miracle He brings to our lives all the time. Jesus is interested in our family life! Yes, making water turn into the best wine available is amazing and wonderful and proves that Jesus is not just some “magician” but is in fact, God Almighty in the flesh. But notice that God Almighty in the flesh…attended a wedding! Jesus is interested in our families and in fact, in our families we can together, encounter Christ’s love and guidance and protection and peace. He is a good and gracious God and He comes to us always, but today we remember, He comes to us in our families!
