    Show Notes:

We talk with actor Brendon Zub. Brendon has popped up on numerous television shows over the past decade. He’s on this week to talk about his role as Chuck Dodgson on Batwoman. Brendon Zub is a Canadian actor whose life adventures and diverse skill set have helped him carve out a unique career and emerge as a sought after and versatile actor. Brendon had early success with roles on Fringe, Supernatural, Smallville, and The Flash, and a nearly unrecognizable performance as a grounder in The 100. A guest star appearance on iZombie soon followed as well as on The Good Doctor and Continuum. More recently, Brendon has put his language skills to use as the french romantic lead in the TV movie THE CHRISTMAS CALENDAR. This was soon followed by a recurring role on the remake of Charmed as Detective Trip Bailey. Currently, Brendon can be seen on “Batwoman” which leads the new superhero Sunday nights, paired with “Supergirl” starting October, 6th 2019.

Our review of Stumptown starring Cobie Smulders, Jake Johnson and Tantoo Cardinal. Based on the series of graphic novels by the same name, “Stumptown” follows Dex Parios, a strong, assertive and sharp-witted Army veteran who has a complicated love life, gambling debt and a brother to take care of in Portland, Ore. Her military intelligence skills make her a great private investigator, but her brash, unapologetic style puts her in a league of her own, landing her in the firing line of hardcore criminals while not quite in alliance with the rules and objectives of the local police.

We talk with actor Helen Johns. Helen has portrayed Mrs. Eliza Berry for the past 3 seasons on Anne with an E. She is no stranger to sci-fi fantasy with a number of credits including the web series comedy Space Janitors and the hard sci-fi digital series Deep Six. Helen Johns was born and raised in the UK and found her love for acting at the early age of three. After years of performing in the theatre, Helen made the jump to film and television when she was cast in THE LISTENER. Since then, Helen has amassed a significant body of work in several productions including COVERT AFFAIRS, REPUBLIC OF DOYLE, HELIX, SPACE JANITORS, MURDOCH MYSTERIES, MISS SLOANE, and ZOE. She is also an accomplished voiceover artist with credits including ASSASSIN’S CREED: SYNDICATE, and TOM CLANCY’S THE DIVISION. Her big breakout role came as series regular Mrs. Eliza Barry in the popular drama series ANNE WITH AN E.

Ashley is one of the acts that will be appearing at Geek Hard LIVE! We’re bringing another comedy show and podcast recording to Comedy Bar in Toronto on Saturday, October 26th. During that time, she has performed with Las Culturistas and opened for renowned acts like Sasheer Zamata (SNL) and Cameron Esposito (Brooklyn Nine-Nine). She was selected as a Rising Star at the Brantford Comedy Festival and has performed at JFL42, Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival, and the Midwest Queer Comedy Festival (OH). Our review of Zombieland: Double Tap starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone. Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock move to the American heartland as they face off against evolved zombies, fellow survivors, and the growing pains of the snarky makeshift family.

We talk with actor Hiro Kanagawa. Hiro has quite the acting career! If you’ve watched t.v. or saw a film in the past 20 years, chances are you’ve seen him in something. In the past six episodes, we’ve covered at least 2 projects he’s in. The guy gets around. Hiro talks about two upcoming series: See for AppleTV+ and Limetown for Facebook Watch. Hiro Kanagawa is a well-known and well-regarded character actor with a diverse and extensive resume. He’s had some notable roles on Smallville, Caprica, iZombie, Heroes Reborn, Man in the High Castle and Altered Carbon. Through the remainder of 2019 Hiro can be seen in two of his more significant roles to date: beleaguered patriarch James Ohata in CW Seed’s “Warigami,” and enigmatic billionaire R.B. Villard in Facebook Watch’s “Limetown.” Additionally, Hiro guest stars as an internment camp doctor in Season 2 of AMC’s “The Terror” and as tribal elder Lord Unoa in Apple’s much- anticipated dystopian epic, “See.”

Our review of Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro and Zazie Beetz. Forever alone in a crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks — the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he’s part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.

  • Geek Hard: Episode 486 – In the Shadow of the News

Originally Aired: 09/27/19 – We review In the Shadow of the Moon. We talk with actor Boyd Holbrook and director Jim Mickle from the film and we talk some news.

    Show Notes:

We play Mr. Green’s sit-down interview with director Jim Mickle and actor Boyd Holbrook regarding the film. Get some insights into the making of this creepy crime thriller.

Boyd Holbrook has amassed an impressive resume of meaningful and intense roles, starring alongside some of Hollywood’s most well-respected actors and working with the industry’s most visionary filmmakers, proving to be one of the industry’s most engaging and thoughtful talents, both in front of and behind the camera. We will next see Holbrook in Netflix’s genre bending psychological thriller IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON, opposite Michael C Hall. The film is set to release this Fall. Also this year, he starred in TWO/ONE, which made its US premiere at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival. The film explores the concept that while we are asleep in one place, we may be awake in another.

Jim Mickle is the co-creator, executive producer and director behind the popular series HAP AND LEONARD for SundanceTV and AMC. The critically lauded show based on Joe Lansdale’s novels starred James Purefoy, Michael K Williams, Christina Hendricks and Jimmi Simpson and ran for three seasons as the highest-rated show in SundanceTV history.

Our review of In the Shadow of the Moon starring Boyd Holbrook, Cleopatra Coleman and Bokeem Woodbine. In 1988, Philadelphia police officer Thomas Lockhart (Boyd Holbrook), hungry to become a detective, begins tracking a serial killer who mysteriously resurfaces every nine years. But when the killer’s crimes begin to defy all scientific explanation, Locke’s obsession with finding the truth threatens to destroy his career, his family, and possibly his sanity. Directed by Jim Mickle and also starring Michael C. Hall and Cleopatra Coleman, IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON is a genre-blending psychological thriller that examines the power of time, and how its passing can either bring us together or tear us apart.

We were scheduled to talk with actor Victoria Dunsmore from TIFF’s The Last Porno Show. However, due to an unforeseen personal matter, she was unable to call in.

When we couldn’t reach Victoria we ended up doing some news of the week (of course it was Sony/Disney deal over Spider-Man what else could it have been) and Mr. Green talked gravy… no, seriously he talked about gravy and it’s importance.
