Chris Pratt to voice Garfield in a new animated movie
Chris Pratt has secured another major character for his voice acting resume, as the actor will provide the voice of Garfield in a new animated movie.
The new Garfield film will be released by Sony Pictures with a script by Finding Nemo’s David Reynolds and directed by Chicken Little’s Mark Dindal. The same duo previously worked together on Disney’s The Emperor’s New Groove.
Previous voice actors for Garfield include the late Lorenzo Music who originated the role on television, and Bill Murray who took over for the two previous films. While Murray’s Garfield movies were a live-action and CG-hybrid, the new film will be fully animated.
Ava DuVernay explains why the New Gods movie was cancelled
Director Ava DuVernay has shed some light on why the New Gods movie she was co-writing and set to direct was cancelled by Warner Bros. Pictures. In a new interview with Sirius XM, DuVernay addressed the topic by saying that Darkseid’s appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League was the primary reason.
The director said, “I loved New Gods, which is the project that got axed. The studio decided that they did not want to pursue a certain part of the comic world based on some things that were going on with another film in that world. So, before I even was able to kind of complete m y script with Tom King, they axed it.”
Despite what happened, DuVernay is still producing DC’s Naomi TV series on The CW and DC’s DMZ adaptation on HBO Max.
Blizzard delays Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV
Activision Blizzard is once again delaying Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV. The company said that while they’re still planning to deliver a substantial amount of content next year, they’re now planning for a later launch for Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV than originally envisioned.
They went on to say that while their teams have made great strides towards completion, they believe giving their teams extra time to complete production and continue growing their creative resources to support the titles after launch will ensure that these games will engage their communities for many years into the future.
No release window has been set for either delayed title.

Amy Hennig’s new studio is making a game with Marvel
Skydance New Media, the game development studio headed by former Uncharted creative director Amy Hennig, will partner with Marvel Entertainment to produce a new video game.
The upcoming title will be a narrative-driven, action-adventure game, featuring a completely original story and take on the Marvel Universe. The companies did not announce which Marvel characters would be featured in the game, nor a release date or platforms for the project.
Hennig said of the project, “I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game. The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery, and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It’s an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love.”
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is coming to VR on Oculus Quest 2
One of the most-loved entries in Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto series is coming to VR. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that a version of 2004’s GTA: San Andreas is in development for the company’s Quest 2 VR headset.
As stated by Zuckerberg, “This new version of what I think is one of the greatest games ever made will offer players an entirely new way to experience this iconic open world in virtual reality.”
No other details, like price, a release date, or game footage have been revealed, but many outlets are comparing the effort to the recently released and surprisingly successful VR adaptation of Capcom’s Resident Evil 4.
Bill Murray implies that he’ll play a part in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Bill Murray is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in an unknown role. In a recent interview with a German outlet, Murray said, “You know, recently I made a Marvel movie. I probably won’t tell you, but never mind. In any case, some people were quite surprised why I decided on such a project. But for me the thing was quite clear: I got to know the director – and really liked him very much. He was funny, humble, everything you want from a director. And with the cheerleader story Bring It On he made years ago, which I think is damn good. So I agreed, although I’m not interested in these huge comic book adaptations as an actor otherwise.”
While Murray never confirmed the specific movie he worked on, the logical connection is Peyton Reed, the director of both his cheerleading movie Bring It On, and Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Sony continues to plot the future of their Marvel universe, as the studio has confirmed 2023 release dates for two mystery Marvel projects. The unnamed films are scheduled to hit theaters on June 23 and October 6 of 2023. It’s likely that one of these films will be Venom 3, but at this point that’s purely speculation.
Sony is currently set to release Spider-Man: No Way Home on December 17th, Morbius on January 28, 2022, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 on October 7, 2022.
Ryan Gosling cast as Ken in upcoming Barbie film
Deadline is reporting that Ryan Gosling will be playing Ken in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Barbie movie, starring opposite Margot Robbie.
Given his busy schedule, Gosling initially passed on playing the part, but insiders add that as pre-production time increased and the studio remained persistent with him being their only choice, an opening in his schedule appeared, allowing him to sign on.
Plot details are unknown at this time, but given director Greta Gerwig’s track record, one can expect that this won’t be your typical take on the doll’s story.

Overwatch hero McCree renamed to Cole Cassidy
Blizzard has revealed the new name for the Overwatch hero that’s currently known as Jesse McCree, and it’s Cole Cassidy.
The name change will take effect in-game on October 26th, with the company tweeting out a monologue from the gunslinger himself.
“The first thing a renegade loses is their name, and this one gave up his long ago. Running from his past meant running from himself, and each passing year only widened that divide between who he had been and what he had become. But in every cowboy’s life, there comes a time when he has to stop and make a stand. To make this new Overwatch better — to make things right — he had to be honest with his team and himself. The cowboy he was rode into the sunset, and Cole Cassidy faced the world at dawn.”
Blizzard changed McCree’s name as part of a broader plan to remove references to real-life developers and former employees of the studio in the wake of a lawsuit related to the company’s former real life employee Jesse McCree.
Jon Watts compares Spider-Man: No Way Home to Avengers: Endgame
In a recent interview with Empire, director Jon Watts teased how big Spider-Man: No Way Home could be, saying, “We’re definitely trying to be ambitious… It’s Spider-Man: Endgame.”
Tom Holland, the man behind the mask, also spoke about the film saying, “When I was first pitched the idea, I was like, ‘Wow, that would be awesome if we could pull it off, but there’s just no way it’s going to work. You’re just not going to be able to get everyone to do what they need to do. It’s just not going to happen.’ But it did happen. And it’s crazy.”
Spider-Man: No Way Home is scheduled to hit theaters on December 17.
Star Wars: Ahsoka will also include Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker
Hayden Christensen will be returning to the role of Anakin Skywalker for Disney+’s upcoming series Star Wars: Ahsoka.
It’s unclear how Skywalker, or for that matter, Darth Vader, will figure into Ahsoka, which, like The Mandalorian, is set five years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and therefore after Vader’s death. As Ahsoka Tano was Anakin’s padawan, it could be in flashbacks, though it’s also just as likely that Anakin will be appear in the form of a Force Ghost.
While the news comes from several sources that informed The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has yet to officially comment.

Ruby Rose alleges unsafe conditions on Batwoman; Warner Bros. responds
Ruby Rose took to Instagram to slam The CW and the production of Batwoman, alleging that some toxic behavior led to her leaving the series.
Her first message said, “Enough is enough. I’m going to tell the whole world what really happened on that set… I will come for you so what happened to me never happens to another person again. And so I can finally take back my life and the truth. Shame on you.”
Rose went on to share a variety of videos from doctors’ visits regarding injuries sustained to her ribs and neck, allegedly from filming the series, and explained she was forced to return to work just 10 days after having surgery. Other stories involved injuries to crew members due to negligence and singling out actor Dougray Scott by saying he was a nightmare to work with, hurt a female stunt double, and yelled at women.
Warner Bros. responded to the allegations, saying, “Despite the revisionist history that Ruby Rose is now sharing online aimed at the producers, the cast and crew, the network, and the studio, the truth is that Warner Bros. Television had decided not to exercise its option to engage Ruby for season two of Batwoman based on multiple complaints about workplace behavior that were extensively reviewed and handled privately out of respect for all concerned.”
An individual with knowledge of Rose’s exit told The Wrap that investigations into these complaints about Rose went on for months before Warner Bros. TV chose not to pick up her option for Season 2.
Dougray Scott also responded, saying, “I absolutely and completely refute the defamatory and damaging claims made against me by her; they are entirely made up and never happened.”
Camrus Johnson, who plays Luke Fox on the show, also weighed in, tweeting, “She was fired. And it is VERY hard to be fired when you’re the lead. Imagine what you have to do for that to happen.”
Alexander J. Baxter, a production assistant on the show, also commented by saying that Rose was a dictator on set, and that whenever she interacted with any of the PA’s, they were disregarded by her like the trash they had to pick up.

Disney delays several MCU release dates
Disney has delayed five of their upcoming announced Marvel movies. Eternals and Spider-Man: No Way Home, however, are both still committed to their respective November and December release dates.
The delays begin with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which has now moved from March to May 6, 2022. That spot was previously held for Thor: Love and Thunder, which has been bumped to July 8, 2022, taking the spot of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. That sequel is now scheduled for November 11, 2022. The Marvels has shifted out of 2022 and will now release on February 17, 2023. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quatummania is the last film receiving a delay, which is now planned for July 28, 2023.
Unlike the other post-2021 MCU films, Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 will maintain its originally announced release in May 2023.
Updates from DC FanDome
In addition to a new trailer for The Batman, there were several other announcements for upcoming projects from DC FanDome.
Director Patty Jenkins and Lynda Carter confirmed that a third Wonder Woman movie is currently in the works, and Carter will be in the film.
The first footage from Black Adam was shown, giving the world a look at Dwayne Johnson in the titular role.
A trailer for The Flash movie leaned heavily into teasing the return of Michael Keaton’s Batman, with the former Dark Knight providing voice over while we got a look at Supergirl and multiple versions of the Flash.
The directors of the upcoming Blue Beetle film, as well as star Xolo Mariduena, spoke about the film before debuting some concept art of Blue Beetle’s costume.
Season 3 of the Harley Quinn animated series will release on HBO Max in 2022, and a sizzle reel gave a quick early look.

Y: The Last Man series cancelled after one season
Y: The Last Man showrunner Eliza Clark has announced via Twitter that the series will not be getting a second season on FX on Hulu, even before the first season has finished airing. The news is a crushing blow to fans of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s original comic, many of whom waited more than 10 years for an adaptation to materialize.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources say that execs at FX had to make a decision on the series by Oct. 15th, and production costs from a showrunner change, multiple recastings that led to reshoots, and delays caused by the pandemic may have led to the cancellation decision.
Despite the early cancellation, Clark remains hopeful for the future of Y: The Last Man, as she expressed their team’s commitment to finding a new home for the series as there’s much more story left to tell.

Batman: Caped Crusader producers reveal more details about the series
In a presentation at DC FanDome, producers Bruce Timm, JJ Abrams, Matt Reeves, and James Tucker explained their vision for the upcoming show, Batman: Caped Crusader. Timm, who co-created Batman: The Animated Series, highlighted that “It’s more Batman: The Animated Series than Batman: The Animated Series.”
Timm went on to clarify that the show will capture what he was originally aiming for with the classic series, saying, “It kind of goes back to the original principles of the show that we originally came up with in the early 90s. There were certain limitations on what we could do in terms of adult content, violence, and adult themes.”
Reeves added in that this version of Batman is currently alone when we meet him. There’s no Justice League. There aren’t any other superheroes. You’re watching this lone figure swimming through the cesspool of Gotham. It’s Batman, alone.
They also suggested that while it’s taking a lot from Batman: The Animated Series, this is still a new story with its own interpretations of characters and their relationships. The Joker and Penguin from The Animated Series won’t necessarily be the same versions of those characters that we see in Caped Crusader. Gordon isn’t Batman’s ally yet and there’s nothing assumed that he will or won’t be.
Timm mentioned that the look of the show will be similar to what he created in his own Batman: Strange Days short, which was heavily noir-influenced, but Caped Crusader won’t share the same black and white appearance as the short.
Peacemaker series gets a release date
Along with debuting its first trailer, DC has revealed that James Gunn’s Peacemaker series will debut on HBO Max on January 13, 2022. John Cena will reprise his role as Peacemaker from The Suicide Squad for the eight-episode season. Gunn wrote all eight episodes of the show and directed five.

In addition to Catwoman: Hunted, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will also release Green Lantern: Beware My Power, Battle of the Super Sons, and a film for younger fans, Teen Titans Go! & DC Super Hero Girls: Mayhem in the Multiverse.
Joining the lineup will be DC Showcase – Constantine: House of Mystery, the latest compilation of animated shorts anchored by a story involving the Hellblazer himself, and the release of Batman: The Long Halloween – Deluxe Edition, which melds both halves of the story into one dynamic thriller.
The Flash gets a new costume for Season 8
Throughout the first seven seasons of The Flash, Barry Allen’s costume has constantly evolved. Season 8 will continue this trend, as The Flash will get another brand-new costume for the upcoming return of the series.
During DC FanDome, producers of The Flash debuted a new picture of Grant Gustin in costume. Among the changes are a newly designed center crest and the wings on his mask. The biggest addition however, are the Flash’s golden boots, which had been left out until now. Gustin added that the golden boots were the final element that’s been missing, bringing this suit closer to the comic design than any previous iteration.
