The field of prosthetics has come a long way in recent years, and one company at the forefront of this progress is Psyonic. Their bionic arm, named: The Ability Hand™ is a highly advanced prosthetic that offers a level of functionality and ease of use that was once thought impossible.

At CES, I ran into CEO (and founder) Dr. Aadeel Akhtar and Dan St. Pierre, who is an amputee and displaying the prosthetic arm. I was joined by Keenan Campbell and Guy Cochran on this interview

One of the most impressive features of the arm is its ability to provide real-time feedback to the user. We got to see this not only from Dan, but with two demo prosthetics. This is made possible through a combination of sensors and algorithms that allow the arm to sense the user’s intentions and respond accordingly.

I also got to control a prosthetic via the iOS app using AI. This opens a lot of options for using the hand without being attached to it.

While it’s not perfect, the arm can be switched to do different tasks. If the user wants to pick up a cup of water, the arm will automatically adjust its grip to ensure a secure hold. Guy tried to unscrew a water bottle, which was a challenge for both Guy, and Dan.

The user can control the arm using their own muscle signals. This is achieved through the use of electromyography (EMG) sensors that are placed on the user’s residual limb.

Overall, the Ability Hand bionic arm from Psyonic is a truly impressive piece of technology that has the potential to greatly improve the lives of people living with limb loss. While it will cost around $15,000 for an arm, Medicaid can be available for amputees to help acquire.

EcoFlow brought some new gear to CES 2023, with battery chargers, an Air Conditioner, a Cooler with charger attached, and the Blade Lawn mower, which will be out later this year.

EcoFlow Blade Lawn Mower

EcoFlow’s Blade lawn mower is a cordless, electric lawn mower that runs on a rechargeable battery. The mower is designed to be more efficient, powerful and lightweight than traditional gas-powered lawn mowers. It features a large capacity battery that allows for up to 60 minutes of run-time on a single charge.

This mower is equipped with a powerful brushless motor that delivers efficient and quiet operation. Other features include a high-quality steel deck, a 7-position cutting height adjustment, an easy-fold handle for easy storage and transport, and a charging base the unit rolls into when the battery is low or the lawn is cut.

The EcoFlow Blade Lawn Mower will be available later this year.

EcoFlow Cooler

EcoFlow Cooler is a portable, rechargeable electric cooler that can keep items cold for up to 48 hours. The cooler is equipped with a powerful battery that can be recharged through a standard outlet, car cigarette lighter, or solar panel. The cooler also features a built-in solar panel that allows for recharging while on the go.

The interior of the cooler is set up for two zones and has a built-in thermometer to monitor the temperature inside. An Ice maker can give your warm drinks a refresh.

The cooler also features a built-in LED light, making it convenient for camping or outdoor use. The EcoFlow Cooler has a capacity of 28 quarts, making it large enough to hold a variety of drinks, food and other items. It is a perfect option for outdoor activities, picnics, camping, and road trips.

EcoFlow Charging Stations

The River series gives you 256 Wh of power for items 300W or below. In a camping or outdoor situation, this will recharge your phone or tablet a few times, Allow you to plug in and use lighting, or plug in an appliance you may need (like a CPap machine) to run during the night.

We saw the DELTA 2 power station, which gives you 1 kWh capacity and the ability to run devices up to 1800 watts (Microwave, TV, computer). The newer DELTA Pro power station can give up to 25 kWh capacity, and handle 3600 watt, allowing you to plug in several items.

This year, Moen moved out to the yard, as they introduced a Smart wireless irrigation system at CES 2023. Using Soil sensors – spikes that go under the grass and stay charged for years – you can plan your sprinklers to run at the right time for optimal saturation and least evaporation.

The sensor system works with existing systems you may already own. The spikes send signal to the wireless unit as they monitor soil moisture and temperature at 1-, 3- and 5-inch depths. You can get a greener yard this summer by simply knowing where to water.

The sensors set watering limits for specific zones and soil types in the Moen Smart Water App. The homeowner would place sensors anywhere in your yard. Even if you do not have a in-ground system, this will help you know where you need to focus on during summer days.

The controller is $179.99, and sensors are $69.99. The system will be out soon, so check Moen for more information and get a greener yard.

Geneverse (Formerly Generark) debuted some new charging technologies at CES 2023. I talked with Buck about the HomePower Pro, and HomePower Plus charging units.

What’s New in Geneverse HomePower

The company redesigned the HomePower One, and HomePower 2 units. Switching to Lithium Phosphate batteries, it will charge longer and give users a longer life cycle while keeping the temperature low. The Home Power 2 can keep a refrigerator running for up to 35 hours, and when you add the solar panels (sold separately), you will be able to have power for certain items for up to a week.

HomePower 2 Plus

The new unit, available later this year, is the HomePower Plus. This is two HomePower Pro 2 units stacked in a convenient cart. This gives you 4400 kWh hours. The Plus has power-assist wheels, and can connect up to a Geneverse Solar transfer box to keep you charged up.

Air Panels

Later this year, Geneverse will be coming out with Air Panels, 80 watt panels that can be set up in different ways to create your home command center. I saw a few of these panels, one being a Gazebo set up with solar charging.

The HomePower 1, HomePower Pro 1 and 2 are available now. The 2 Plus will be available later this year for $4995.

At  @CES  I talked with  @GOVEE  and learned about their new AI Gaming Sync Box. This is a box that passes the HDMI to tell the lights what colors will be on screen. In return, gamers get an out-o-monitor experience – Check out Govee here

Adobe has a new tool out in BETA right now. Adobe Podcast is a platform for organizing, creating, and publishing podcasts. It allows users to create audio content wherever they are, and bring it into the editor to cut out the ums and ahs.

It’s still in BETA right now, but already it’s a powerful tool for editors. Even I am thinking about bringing back some of the podcasts I used to do because the edit process is a thousand times easier.

How Adobe Podcast Works

Previously called “Project Shasta”, this program is an online editor that allows you to record or bring in audio files, converts to text, and as you edit your text, it will adjust the audio to match.

If your show contains a series of pauses, or an interviewee says “Um” and “Ah” a lot, Adobe Podcast can highlight, and edited out with the tap of the delete key.

Adding Music

The program has some basic intros, outtros, and mid-show music you can put in. You can have it run independently, or set the music behind the audio. Trim the length so it matches the segment you have created.

Mic Check and Enhanced Speech

Two tools are available right now for everyone to use at Adobe Podcast. The Mic check allows you to find out how loud your microphone is, along with how much room echo you get when you record. You can then make adjustments to improve the sound even before the computer records it.

The Enhanced Speech tool takes the audio and removes all background noise and echo – ultimately improving the quality. The sample podcast is one from Mark Webster and Sam Anderson – leads of Adobe Podcast – where they recorded their parts without mixing, and used Enhance Speech to fix the audio.

When you check out the “Welcome to Adobe Podcast” sample, you can toggle the Enhanced Speech on and off to see the difference.

These bullet-style cameras can be placed in many different spot inside or outside the house. With a 1/4″ mount in the back, you can put these around the house out of reach of vandals.

Each EufyCam 3 will capture in 4K UHD, using a F1.4 aperture lens, and BSI CMOS sensor. This allows for better capture, especially during the evening hours.

The built-in AI module can also detect who is in shot – whether a person, an animal, or a vehicle. Within the app, you can identify what each item is, then get a in-app identification (or no identification at all) if that person, animal, or vehicle comes into frame.

During the evening, you can set color night mode, which uses the on-board LED light to add color to the shot.

Solar Panel and Battery

The S330 also has a solar panel, and 13,400 mAh battery inside. Eufy has claimed that if you have no sunlight, the camera will last up to 365 days. Limited sunshine will keep it powered for the life of the camera.

About the S380 Eufycam Base Station

This S380 base allows you to go “Cloud Free” in your recordings with adding a hard drive to the unit. The unit comes with 16 GB storage built-in, but can expand up to 16 TB – using the internal bay, or a USB drive. If you have 4 or more cameras, this means you can keep recordings up to a year or more before archiving.

Installation is straight forward: the drive bay is under the top plate. You can install a 2.5 inch drive – choosing either an SSD or hard drive (known as a laptop hard drive). Of course, make sure you power off the unit before installing.

The unit plugs into your home router for a consistent connection to all your Eufy security products.

The Eufy Security App

Install on iOS or Android, and you can connect all your base stations, and other Eufy security devices. Some of the other camera devices also can utilize the 24/7 recording to the S380 base station.

Settings to turn on and off the LED light, consistency of the recordings, streaming quality and more are available. When reviewing, you have the ability to zoom in up to 8X so you can check out details further away.

The app adds a solar charging efficiency dashboard, allowing you to see how your camera performs in the spot you put it in.

Yololiv has been building some great switching/streaming boxes for videographers to create live events with minimal equipment. With 3 models available, a new model in “Instream” (which allows for streaming vertical video), you can get a device that works for what you need.

The Yolobox Pro gives you up to 4 inputs for cameras, gaming systems, computers, and much more. You can send video out to a capture card via the HDMI port, or use the USB-C to directly connect. This allows you to bring into another switcher, whether software such as vMix or Wirecast, or hardware like the Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini.

The Yolobox Pro contains the Qualcomm 660 CPU, with 2.0 GHz processor and 3GB RAM/32 GB ROM. The 8 inch screen can stream/record in 1080p with a screen brightness of 400 nits.

Connect Ethernet, Wifi, or insert a SIM card for mobile connection. Add an SD card to record to the unit if wireless connection is not possible.

The 10,000 mAh battery will give you around an hour of streaming or recording (depending on what you have connected and what graphics are running). Use the USB charge port to add a battery or power source.

Up to 4 Cameras

With 3 HDMI inputs, and ability to add a USB camera as the 4th, you can set up a small studio for whatever you do. I connected 2 PTZ cameras, a laptop for screen capture, and the OBSBOT 4K as the USB camera.

Output to Computer

You can send output via HDMI out, or through the USB-C connection. You can also use the USB ports to connect an external drive for recording.
