Geeking On Music

We have had many requests for more nerdy gear talk, so in this episode we give you just that. We meet with our good friend Matt Burdick and pick his brain about all sorts of nerdy shit.

n this episode, Clay, Justin, and special guest Adam Smith have a discussion on jazz music particularly music from Miles Davis and those artists that surrounded him

In this episode, Clay and Justin visit a local record shop and sift through their new trade-ins, dollar bins etc. and discuss their finds.

Our good friend - Steve Young - from San Diego, CA crashes the party.  We had a blast with Steve while he was in town.  We saw Jaye Bartell, Kevin Morby, Billy Changer, and Broncho live and recorded this podcast.  We discuss these bands as well as Viet Cong, and much….much….more!

In the 90's Uncle Tupelo breathed life into the stagnant country rock scene with its brand of country-punk that was truly unique.  Although their catalog is only 4 albums deep, they became the blueprint for the alt-country genre/scene.  From their ashes rose two great bands - Wilco and Son Volt.

A lot has happened in the month since our last episode. We talk about Prince and the legends we've lost in 2016. We dig a little deeper into Sturgill Simpson's music and his instant classic "A Sailor's Guide to the Universe!" that was released in April. Also....NEW RADIOHEAD!!! Come and geek out with us.

In this episode Clay and Justin talk about the new 2016 albums that were released from January through March and share tracks from their favorites. Will Justin listen to TLOP? We also do a few minutes of Q&A and discuss what's caught our eye from the upcoming Record Store Day on April 16th. This episode has a companion Spotify playlist, you can listen when the "needle drops" or when you're done with the episode. If you like any of the albums, please support the artists by purchasing the album, whether that be digitally, CD or vinyl. Links are available on or website.  www.geekingonmusic.com

In this episode we discuss the pros and cons of having a HiFi/Analog vinyl record playing system vs. the pros and cons of the digital world that surrounds us.  We go over the many combinations of how you can arrange your system based on your needs and budget; from all-in-one turntables with built in speakers, to tube amplification.  We go over how this all works from needle to speakers.  Belt driven turn tables vs. direct drive, moving magnet cartridges vs. moving coil, standard mounting cartridges vs. P-mount, how to pair and align your cartridge and set up your turntable.  We also discuss pre-amps, power amps, receivers and speakers.  We are in no way insufferable know-it-alls and there is no way one episode can cover everything there is to know about the subject.  This episode is intended to cover the basics for those of you who have asked about our personal systems, who are interested but know little to nothing about vinyl or how to set up a home HiFi system. There is so much more information out there and differing opinions, but our hope is that this episode covers enough of the basics that you can feel confident getting started on setting up your own HiFi/Analog vinyl record playing systems.  We also give advice on how to achieve wonderful sound at home without breaking the bank.

In this episode we visit local record shop, Randy's Records, and drop some dough on vinyl.  We then head back to Clay's to discuss our picks.  Justin gave one of his finds to Clay but will Clay return the favor?  You can visit www.geekingonmusic for links and other info pertaining to this episode.
