  • Public Health: Malaysia’s Nursing Profession in Critical Condition

The critical issue of shortage within the nursing profession - serving both public and private hospitals - has carried over across several administrations. In February this year, then-Minister of Health Khairy Jamaluddin said MOH would conduct a detailed analysis and study on the shortage of nurses in government hospitals and clinics. Barely a week into the new administration under Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Association of Private Hospitals flagged the severe nursing shortage in private hospitals, and called on the new Minister of Health to bring in trained foreign nurses. Is liberalisation of the nursing profession, as other countries have done, the way to go? We explore in our Public Health show.

  • Free Period Pads at MOH a Great Step in the Right Direction

Recently, health minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa announced an initiative to provide free sanitary pads in the Ministry of Health (MOH) to combat period poverty. She said that the initiative will launch in MOH itself, in which free sanitary pads will be placed in the washroom of the minister’s office. The announcement drew mixed reactions from the public, with many calling it a step in the right direction, while others say the initiative should be targeted better.

So, is it a good initiative, is it not? Perhaps it’s a great initiative that in a typical Harapan fashion, wasn’t communicated properly.

  • AI Art Tools - Big Help, or Big Danger?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you’ll have seen social media – and most of the Internet, swamped with AI images. Some of your friends might have even posted them giving examples of what they might look like as a superhero, or as a Pixar character — all manners of interpretations of the human form. And yet, all of these images are not real, convincing as they are, they were created by a series of algorithms.

Technology is moving so fast these days, that we now have chatbots that can convincingly mimic human conversations, that can mimic our voice and can realistically produce ‘art’ - or can they?

On today’s show we’re going to be exploring that idea, and how these algorithms might potentially affect the income and hard-work of the ‘traditional’ artist.

Joining us a little later on the phone is Alan Quah - he’s a Malaysian Comic Artist whose works have graced the pages of Marvel, DC Comics, and Lucasfilm to name just a few and Lai Theng Seng from Studio Behind 90s, an illustrator who worked with Cuckoo and AirAsia, (he did one for Netflix as well) among many big brands.
