Fatherhood in Trek

In recognition of the recent Father's Day holiday, the trio examine the dads in Trek - both the characters who were actual dads and the ones who had parental (or grandparental) qualities. Which Trek dad would you like to have taken you to a ballgame? Or have an adventure with? Which Trek dads would take part in the local Starfleet branch of a dad's group, and what would they talk about? And does Captain Jellico being a loving granddad make up for his being an ornery captain? Let us know your favorite Trek dad!

Lee is joined by Gayle Rankin who plays Harper's best friend Riley in Alex Garland's latest movie, Men. In the aftermath of a personal tragedy, Harper retreats alone to the beautiful English countryside, hoping to find a place to heal. But someone or something from the surrounding woods appears to be stalking her.

Loosely inspired by Rome at the end of the Pax Romana, 2000’s seminal crowd-pleaser Gladiator defined Russell Crowe’s career and remains a benchmark for sword-and-sandal epics. Audiences cheered the heroism of a reluctant hero challenging a mad ruler, but does this film echo in eternity or fade with the passage of time?

This week starts the final Skinjacker book, and preparations for the final confrontation are underway. Milos is trying to hold together Mary’s evil coalition, and failing miserably. This leads him down his own path of further evil which we spend quite  a bit of time unpacking. Both of us enjoy our new characters, and our romances. The good guys in this story are just so fulfilling! The worldbuilding expands, and we appreciate the complexity it adds to the story. Mary is extra evil. Asia and Charles are really enjoying the series, and can’t wait to finish the series next week.

Well the build off pays off this week as things get absolutely crazy in Everlost. All of our characters converge in Memphis for a big showdown. Allie is skinjacking a ton and learning important things about herself and the nature of skinjackers. Nick is fighting a losing battle against the chocolate and trying to prepare for his fight with Mary. Mary herself has gone off the deep end. Charles and Asia have a discussion on the nature of evil, and Mary’s descent into madness. The ending of this reading is crazy, in a good way, and you really have to read it to believe it.
