The one ABQ Challenge is an initiative from the City of Albuquerque Mayor’s office and the First Lady to encourage cross-generational civic engagements and creativity in our community. Generation Justice is participating in the One ABQ Challenge by bringing together GJ youth media makers and Civil Rights activists here in Albuquerque! GJ youth will have the opportunity to hear the lived experiences of elders who have dedicated their lives to social justice activism in our city and share their audio histories with you.

This week, Generation Justice youth producers continue our series of interviews with elders in the Albuquerque community who have paved the way to justice by dedicating their lives to activism and organizing.

As part of the "One Albuquerque Challenge: Connecting Youth and Elders," GJ youth interviewed Albuquerque's social justice leaders. The goal of this challenge from the city's First Lady, Elizabeth Kistin Keller and the Mayors' Office, is to have a collection of projects that reflect the creativity, the diversity, and the needs of Albuquerque.

We speak with Mahdi Hosseini and Baruch Campos of Together For Brothers, who share their work to secure bus passes for youth in Albuquerque. Then, we hear from Kathie Dodd and Athman Lali Omar from American Field Service (AFS) Intercultural Programs, about exchange programs that help student broaden their perspective and understanding of cultures. New Mexico’s homeless population is growing each year. In this podcast, we are speaking with youth who are organizing to help. We’ll hear from Reed Pike from “New Day UNITY” about their work against Albuquerque’s panhandling ordinance. And, Quincy Walker, will tell us about his new “Hydrate the Homeless” project and how people in Albuquerque can help. Finally, we got an update on Net Neutrality from Tim Karr, Senior Directo of Strategy and Communications for Free Press.

On this edition of Generation Justice, we explore the many ways our community finds healing. We will be speaking with Luzero Velasquez, a 19-year-old GJ member who recently finished a year long immersive training on Indigenous healing in Cuernavaca, Mexico. We will hear from Farah Nousheen who is a UNM academic advisor and founder of “Yoga for People of Color for Healing and Empowerment," they will share with us where they go in search of peace and love. As always, our music translates the messages of healing, peace, and empowerment.
